I need your opinions. Do you recommend using walkie talkies or cell phones when your group splits up?

My recommendation would be cell phones if you already have them. If you use walkie talkies, then you may have other people also using the same band. But if you use your cell phone, your conversation will be private.

Another question??

How do you keep them dry on the water rides (i.e. Splash Mountain, Kali River Rapids) ?

Hi. Mabybe I should know this but if you are from another state and use your cell phone will it be using minutes like crazy due to "Roaming"? Or can you reactivate in that state......Not real familiar with this phone stuff. Thanks

Thanks everyone! :thumbsup2

I think I am going to leave the walkie talkies at home and bring some ziploc bags.

What company do you use? I use Verizon and I have used my phone in both Colorado and California without paying roaming charges. (I live in New Hampshire.)

Not a big cell phone user and don't have a great plan, so using ours in WDW cost lots of $$$. We prefer to take our walkie talkies. I know others have mentioned having people on the same channel, but we've been using ours for the past 6 years and have only had someone on our channel 3 or 4 times.

Hi. We just have a couple of tracfones and 2 from virgin mobile. Rave and vox. KH

Neither...setup a meeting time and place....if you use your cell phone, you will likely get other calls...and you are on vacation.....the walkie talkie may not work unless it has a big range...

Cell phones, and this is why:

Alot of foreign tourists either don't have service or do not want to pay the price for cell service outside of their country so they choose walkie talkies instead. With all the people at any given park, the frequency you're using may be taken up by someone else. If you have a walkie talkie with limited channels, this could be a problem.

This past week while i was at the park, i felt like the only American/english speaking person there. Even a few of the ride operators there had problems with english. :rolleyes1

cell phones with a national plan is the way to go.
my husband and I have cingular, so calls to each other were
unlimited. :)

to answer the question above on how to keep your cellphones dry....
zip lock bags and on the kali river ride, there is a dry bin in the center for
everyone to put their belongings and shoes in. :thumbsup2

I do. I'll put it to you this way, I had service on Great Movie Ride and ToT. The service is amazing in Disney. I don't think I had any problems at all with my service down there

Living in Canada my Dad & I because we are with Bell Canada, purchased a Florida plan for our cell phones. Basically we get 100 minutes which is good anywhere in the state of Florida & when we use them, it's like making a local call so we were not charged roaming or anything. I was surprised that my phone worked because I got a call from my Dad while on the Haunted Mansion (don't worry I got off right away because I said I was on the ride), but I got no service at the Food & Fun Center. For some reason that I can not figure out.

We always use cell phones, Cingular, and have mobile to mobile free, never have to use minutes or roaming.

We use cell phones. Also, we have the unlimited texting package. We will text each other at the parks...we find this to work great for us because of our big group...otherwise our phones would be ringing constantly! :thumbsup2
