Cell phones in the parks

Hi ! I am a newbie to cell phone use, I have only had one for about a month. I plan on bringing my phone to the parks on my SOLO vacation in December. I have the Verizon plan that should cover my home town and also the WDW area with no roaming charges. Both my home phone and my cell phone has the 518 area code.

It may seem like a stupid question to those used to cell phone use, but exactly how do I call from my cell phone to my home phone? Do I have to put in the area code when I call home?

Seeing that I will be solo, I would like to keep in closer contact with my Husband back home. I want to call him frequently from the parks to let him know what I am experiencing at that time.

Will I be able to call him from the airplane ? That would be so cool !

Thanks for any info !

All you should have to do is put in the area code and number. I never dial a 1 for anything, even when calling what would be long distance from a home phone.

As far as flying, I believe the last time I flew, cell phone use was prohibited while on the plane.

When the plane starts, the cell phones go off. When the plane has landed and is safely in dock, they'll come on the PA and announce you can use cell phones now. Immediately, half the plane will yank their cell phones out and call somebody. I never understood that! It's like folks who sit waiting for a plane for two hours, then suddenly rush to the bathroom before the plane takes off. Ah, the nervous habits of flyers.....

There's also the option of using the on-board phones, which most planes have. But make it a quick call. It's been a while, but it seems to me I made a call to DW last year to let her know I was in the air (I was on stanby and she needed to know I was on the plane, honest!). I think a two minute call was about fourteen bucks....

But as for the flight itself, Rat Pack is right. They'll chew you out well if you make a call in-flight. It can cause Electromagnetic Interference, which you don't want when your pilot is guiding you by panel only.
