This will be the first year that we will let our son go off with friends in the parks by themselves, and because of that we will want him to carry his phone will him. What has been the best way your guys have found to carry phones (for young men) and not have them get wet/ruined? Thanks for your input.

I bought a dry-pak. You can find them in any sporting goods store. They are found in the boating section. They are basically a waterproof lanyard that hangs around the neck.

I agree with the ziplock bag cause we have done this and kept phone dry and never had any problems plus its alot cheaper than going out and trying to find stuff to hang from their neck cause it doesn't feel very good if they get a sunburn like my boys did and complain about :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! I did think about sandwich bags, because I put my phone in one before it went into my fanny pack. Wasn't sure if that would be enough without the added layer of a fanny pack. As expensive as these kids devices are now a days.... if it was just my cheapo phone I wouldn't worry so much:rotfl: .

Ziploc bag works very well. Can put cell phone, wallet, everything in there, not a drop gets in the bag if you close it properly.

Definitely the ziploc. Also, most groups of people always have that one person who won't do the water rides (it's usually the same person who won't do the "upside down" ride). Leaving them with that person is even better.

instead of the sandwich baggie, i use the small freezer baggie.
it is stronger and holds tighter at the seam.

You definitely want *something*, and that something needs to be something he'll use!

DH and DS went on Bluto's (I've been on it before, and liked it, but just wasn't feeling like it that day) and we didn't think about hubby's cellphone. DS had his Rick Steves poncho on (well, hubby's poncho) but hubby was poncho-free. At the last minute (after a very long technical problem that had them next to board for approx 30 minutes) he put his phone into DS's pocket. And thank goodness!

DH was soaked to the bone, and his phone would have been destroyed. DS kept saying "oh I'm soaking wet!" throughout the ride because of course you can feel the water hit you through the poncho, but he was dry below the head and neck. So the phone was safe. :)

I think the freezer bag route sounds the safest (there is no way I will convince a 15yo boy that he should wear a rainponcho) :rotfl: and a freezer bag is free-I like free! I wonder if they make them smaller than the gallon size I always buy...

funny not related story . . . .

Several years ago as Commanding Officer of a Coast Guard Cutter, we visited St Thomas USVI. The Navy League invited us to a reception at a member's home.

We were driven WAY up the mountain to a house almost at the top. It had a "zero edge" pool (the first I'd ever seen) that spilled over the cliff edge and the entire pool area looked over the port area.

I was introduced to our hostess and asked "what does one do to have such an amazing house?"

She replied, "My husband holds the patent for the Zip Lock bag."

Walmarts, Targets, and Brookshires all three sell the thicker quart size freezer bags. We use them for our 3-1-1- bag and also to hold our phones on the water rides.

:goodvibesIf your flying just pick up a few extra at the security checkpoint. Tsa always has them available.
