Can a Verizon cell phone receive calls from a foreign country without additional fees, or is there some charge to connect a call to a domestic cell phone from Europe? I have looked on the Verizon site and see info about using a Verizon phone abroad, but nothing about receiving a call from abroad.

You can't control where the call originates from. I don't how they could charge extra for a call from somewhere else.

It doesn't matter where the call is coming from. If you have included minutes remaining or it is a time during which you get free calls there is no charge. Making the call however TO a foreign country is a different story.

All I can find on the Verizon website is they do charge for incoming texts from outside the US. And there is a charge to txts them abroad. But nothing mentions receiving calls from abroad. I have an inquiry into their customer service, but wondered if anyone here routinely receives calls and if there is an additional fee. Hopefully not.

We have Verizon. My DS went on a Cruise....Caribbean....he called and we spoke for just a few minutes half way through his trip! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Yup, they charged us. It fell under my "roaming" charges on the bill.

momrek06-You were charged on your cell phone for receiving a call from his phone when he was away? Not a case where you are both on the same plan and you get a bill. The charge was receiving, not dialing? :(

To be honest, I do not remember all the details as this was last year. I do remember though getting my bill a month later and it was $50.00 MORE (that I do remember)! :headache:

I don't have Verizon, but when DS was in Iraq, he would call my cell phone and there were never any additional charges. He then moved to Germany and called all the time and there were never any additional charges there either. I have AT&T, but I would assume they are all the same.

There foreign calls situation is a bit complicated. The easiest thing to do is dial 611 from your cell, and ask them.:)

We had Verizon (up till 2 weeks ago) Extended families called from Asia all the times with no extra charges on my end.

I had a Verizon phone while a friend of mine was living in England. I was never charged one penny when she called me. She was unable to text me but that was 2003 and she used a pay as you go phone so that might have been the reason. One of my friends works for Verizon Wireless and the only way you will be charged is if you are out of minutes and that charge will be the same if the call came from oversees or from the next room.

Thank you all. I have not gotten a response from Verizon yet, but I figured I could count on input here to give me an answer quickly. Thanks.
