Cell phone question...

We have used Nextel at OKW, VWL, BCV, and all the parks with no problem.....

I am a cell phone neophyte. DS & I had just gotten Verizon phones. When we went to HH & OKW in Aug., I called Verizon to discuss service, esp. roaming charges. The Verizon representative had me download some new info into my phone to increase the number of reception points. He assured me of good service from WDW, but expressed doubt about HH. Just the opposite happened. At HH, we never had the roaming warning, but it flashed inconsistently at OKW. I guess I'm not really talking about reception, as much as I'm worried about added costs. Any info would be appreciated.

SueG, you might call them again. My understanding of it is that if "roaming" is BLINKING, you're OK. If it's solid, you'll be charged. I have America's Choice (no long distance) and I have never had an extra bill resulting from my Florida-based calls. Good luck.

We have Cingular and T-Mobile (we keep different providers figuring at least one of us will have a signal when we travel). Cingular gets better coverage around WDW by far. We have not stayed at OKW yet so can't speak to that specifically, but at WL we never found a spot where we could get a T-Mobile signal.

We have Cingular as well and have never had a problem at WDW.

we use Nextels and they were great, plus the fact that you can use the walkie-talkie part, it was wonderful. I even convinced my parents to ditch their cigular telephones and get the nextels!!

I have Verizon. At CBR, I couldn't get reception while in the room and in certain locations around the resort. At the parks, there was no problem with reception.

We have always had AT&T and have never had a problem no matter what resort we were at on property. I don't know why, but we have always been okay.

I used to have ATT and the coverage at WDW was always very good. Then I switched to Verizon and it has been horrible for the last 3 visits. I call Horizon and they say they have no idea why the service is so spotty it should be fine!!!!!!!!! I feel like I am talking to the wall. Even the text messaging doesn't work very well. Go figure!!!!!!!!

Could it be the phones we are using? I have one of the Nokia 5000 series and have trouble.

We have Verizon, and at the YC, we had to stand on the balcony to use the phone. This last trip at the BWV however, the phone worked just fine inside the room. Go figure.

We both have Nokia 3300 series but with different providers and Cingular gets good coverage and T-Mobile does not so, for us at least, the phones don't seem to matter.

We have T-Mobile and have had great success at all of the parks and at OKW, BWV, & BCV on our phone.

I beleive the Nokia 5000 Series are Analog phones, not digital. My mom has one and she refuses to get rid of it since it has a mickey cover, but I have a Nokia Series that is Digital and we can be standing in the same spot and she does not get service. As a matter of fact we walked into the Cingular store at the mall and showed them both of our phones and the guy told us that the reason she was not getting good service was because it was an older analog phone. She has decided she is going to upgrade before our next trip to Florida.

We have T-Mobile, four cell phones - two nokia and two motorola phone. DH and I (use Nokia) had to put our phones away because they barely worked. We left one with our son and took one away from my other son (they were together anyway) and then we were able to communicate most of the times. Sometimes we had to face the phone a certain way (towards the porch door) while on the kitchen table. These Motorola phones also worked in the parks while the Nokia's did not.

I have Verizon service and have never had a problem any where on property

We bring our Nextel phones and have used them so far at BW, OKW and BCV.

They have also worked great at ALL of the parks.

Nextel also worked on the disney cruise ship while in port and all over Key West. Never tried them for the rest of the cruise.
