Cell phone Question

Has anyone used their cell phones on the ship? I would think not, but curious - instead of bringing two-way radios. Also, have you used your cell phone in WDW? I heard they don't work there either. If they do not work at either place, might just leave them home. We have four on the family plan and they are a great way to communicate - of course, when you have service. TIA.

Myself, my sister and my brother-in-law all took our NexTel's on our June 14 cruise. We could use it on St. Thomas and a couple miles from Florida but that's it. However, we took them to the parks and were able to talk to each other back and forth using NexTel's Walkie Talkie feature which was great.

I was able to use my verizon cell phone in St Thomas and in the parks.

T-Mobile works in the parks and close to FL on ship, my nextel worked better both at WDW and a little further out at sea than T-mobile

We have Sprint and they work awesome in the parks. Of course the problem has always been hearing the ring because of the people around me (or the fact I'm just not trying to listen for my phone! ;) )

I was wondering the same thing!! As far as the office goes, I am leaving it home. For all others I will have it.

In the parks our nextels worked (as cells) just fine.

We'll find out tomorrow!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I have Verizon mobile with Kyocera phones and have had reception on the ship (sometimes had to go up on deck), even when at sea for two cruise (Mexico and Bahamas). I once went with a group of 10 and 8 of them used my phone to call home because all of theirs didn't work. No on else had Verizon.

Just a quick question.
We are travelling to Orlando in December from Scotland, can we hire Cell phones for the duration of our stay ? Does anyone know ?

Thanks

Highland Lass

DH and I use our ATT cell phones in the parks and WDW resorts all the time and never have had a problem. We also used them on RCCL Alaska cruise. I've never taken them on a caribbean cruise so I can't say about that.

Okay, we will leave the two-way radios at home and take our T-Mobile cell phones. Since my two sons are older and might want to go off on their own, cell phones will be a great help. I remember somone saying that there was no service with almost any phone about a year ago almost anywhere in the parks. Perhaps things have changed since the whole world now has cell phones. Thanks everyone. Down to the wire now.

On both cruises I got reception with my Verizon service - StarTak phone - on Castaway Key.

On Western got it in Key West; on Eastern got reception in St Thomas. Sporadic during sea days.

Didn't even get charged extra roaming charges, either.

Hope that helps!

Hi Highland Lass.

can we hire Cell phones for the duration of our stay ?

While at WDW I believe you can rent two-way radios. You can also purchase a pair of two-way radios relatively inexpensively here in the States.

As of to date, I haven't seen any companies advertising "Cell phones for hire"...
