I'm I already know the answer to this, but is there ANY chance to recover a cell phone I left in a cab in NYC? I actually do not care much about the phone at all - it's all the pictures I have of my daughters (that are not backed up anywhere else - I know, shame on me) that I'm nearly devastated about. :sad1: I have the receipt showing the medallion number, time we were picked up and dropped off, and I know where we were picked up and dropped off. I realized I left it in the cab about 2 minutes after the cab left. We tried calling it several times and no one answered, and then suddenly it started going straight to voicemail so I'm assuming someone probably turned it off. I have submitted an online report with TLC and have called nearly all the designated lost property precincts in the city and have not had any luck yet but was hoping someone on this board might be able to offer some encouraging words or tell me that they did the same thing and had a positive outcome! I can't believe I did this!!! :headache: I'm just sick over it. Thanks in advance!

Do you have your receipt? It'll have the cab number on it. Or at least the dispatch where it's from. You should be able to track it down that way. But you need that receipt. Good luck. If another rider didn't pick it up, chances are the cabbie turned it into his home base.

New York City also has a "311" phone number for questions and assistance with matters like this. I don't know if they can offer you more help than you've already tried, but it may be worth a shot.

I hope you find it. But, the one time DH lost his in the snow and it started going straight to vm, someone had switched the sim cards and kept the phone. I'm not sure which carrier you use, but he was able to go online on AT&T's website and tell it had been switched since they put his sim card in the other phone. His was a blackberry and it was put in another type of phone.

Can't the provider do a trace on the GPS to find out where it is? I thought I had read about people who did that with stolen Iphones. Maybe the battery ran dead and that is why its going to voicemail or maybe it fell out of the cab and got wet.

Hope you get it back!

Marsha

call your number. HOpe the person who finds it answers -- even if they keep the phone, ask and who knows -- they may forward the pictures to you!

I think it's possible the cab driver has the phone and will turn it in to the TLC Lost & Found at the end of their shift. I hope it turns up.

I agree with this I think you will have a very good chance to get it back because you have the receipt medallion number & already contacted TLC...had you just paid & got out with no clue ...no chance but I think all will be ok. NYC cab drivers tend to have a bad rep but they're nicer than most people think. Good Luck

Just be persistent and call every few days. You would be amazed how much actually turns up. How long ago did you lose it?

Thanks for all the responses. I lost it on Sunday (7/18). I called every designated lost property police precinct yesterday and it had not turned up, but I did file a report with TLC and they said they would contact the driver. I have continued to try to call it but it still goes straight to vm, which at this point is actually a good thing. It is a work phone, so they have put something on it to where if it is turned on again, it will wipe the entire phone clean, including my pictures. I'm hoping, at this point, to just get it back (without it being turned on) and get my sim card out of it. Because it's all going through our IT department, I have no idea about the GPS or looking up the number online to see if the sim card has been switched. Hopefully, I hear something soon!! Thanks again!

Well hang in there it hasn't even been a full 2 days. Have hope seems like between your job and yourself you're doing everything you can at this point.

That's if the cab driver was the one who found it. If it was another passenger, unless it's someone with a conscience, it's 50/50 whether you'd get it back. :confused3:
