Cell phone ideas?

I have a 12 year and would like to get him a cell phone without spending alot of money. He basically needs to only talk and text. T-Mobile is my carrier if that makes a difference. Any suggestions? TIA

My kids have all have Tracfone that has Verizon service. They get 180 minutes per month to use. If they go over they have pay Mom back. They get 180 minutes, text and data a month. My kids have a app on there phone that lets text for free if they on wi-fi.

I would also check page plus to that runs off Verizon too.

Doesnt Walmart have those prepaid phones that you can buy cheap? I assume they can talk and text as long as they have cash on them ...

Thanks to the wonderful people on this board, I got DC a page plus cellular phone + account. (same age as your dc). I could not be happier. Check website, PM me ate any time w. a question. It has been great. We too only wanted text and calls only. There is also data if you wanted it.

We got our 11 year old a basic android trac phone that was eligible for triple minutes for life. So we buy a card that says "200 texts, 200 minutes and 200 megabytes of data for 3 months" and it costs something like $25 or $30, and it's actually good for 600 texts, 600 minutes and 600 mb of data. We turned off the data on the phone, but he can use the internet via wifi. He has had it for about 2 months, and has come nowhere near the usage limits so far. We figure for less than $10 a month it works pretty well for us.

Our 17 year old DD on the other hand, has a Straight Talk Samsung galaxy s3. We put her on a $45 a month unlimited everything plan. She's had it for about 2 months and is very happy with it. I prepaid the first 3 months for it, and will continue to buy 3 month blocks while she is still in college. They don't have wifi everywhere on her college campus, so she kind of does need the unlimited data....it's just easier to not need to think about it.
