My family has Verizon as our cell phone carrier and looking to switch. Does anyone have Sprint or T-Mobile? Have you been happy with them, any issues?

I switched the family from AT&T to T-Mobile about 7 years ago, I think. Could be longer.

There were places where T-Mobile's coverage was inferior but those places have seen greatly improved coverage over the years.

We have traveled internationally many times since the switch and have enjoyed the included international data from T-Mobile. Trips are so much easier in that we just use our phones like normal when international with no worry about cost.

How happy you are with a particular cell service provider is very much local dependent. T-Mobile will allow you a 3 month trial of their network.

Was just coming on here to post something about cell phone services. We currently have AT&T. We have had it for many years. But I am starting to get tired of paying the crazy prices for our phones. The rest of my family is still locked in because they have newer phones. But I have been sitting on an upgrade for over a year and haven't done anything because I have been contemplating on trying out one of the prepaid cell phone services like Boost Mobile, Mint Mobile (how can you not look at it when Deadpool owns it, haha), or Cricket. Anyone have any experiences with those type of services.

There is another recent thread about this subject. Where you live and what places you frequently call makes a difference so it isn't going to be a 'one size fits all' type of answer. For example, if you never call/travel internationally then clearly someone offering that service isn't of value to you. Also how much data you use, do you mostly make calls or send texts or do you want to stream movies?............things like that.

I don’t know anybody who uses Sprint or T-Mobile. Most people use Verizon around here. Others have AT&T but it’s not as good as Verizon.

We're giving it until the end of this week. I called and they said that there is an issue in the Cincinnati area for the past week. My phone has trouble with the data, my sons are having problems with data, texting and calls. Verizon said that since we are on the unlimited basic plan, we are at the bottom for priority for the cell towers. For just an extra $10 a line extra we can bump up for better priority. I just think this is their way of having people increase their plans. Getting very tired of it.

I have had Boost Mobile for several years and am very happy with it. For myself and my daughter, it is $75 per month. We have not traveled internationally since I have had it, though, so I can't talk about what it offers in that regard. The coverage is better than when I had AT & T.

Spint/T-Mobile are *terrible* where I live. I had Sprint for a year because it was essentially free and it was horrible. Their customer service was nearly as bad. It took them 2 weeks to get my DD's phone on their system.

Cell phone carriers no longer give great deals on the best phones. I use an iPhone and the price is the same if I buy it out right or if I finance it through a legacy phone carrier. I would rather buy the phone (even though the price is painful) than to pay the same for it over time and twice as much for service. They make you think you are getting a good deal and you're not.

Go to https://www.whistleout.com/ to find the best plan for you. I use AT&T Prepay on my iPhone and it's been great. My DD uses a Google Pixel and it has also been flawless. I have my account set up for autopay, but pay early with gift cards which saves me a few dollars a month in taxes and fees. They are also running a special of $300 per year for 16GB per month of data. I keep on meaning to change to that plan! Maybe next month :).

From what I understand, as others have said, you have to see what has the best reception in your area. I know someone who switched and, in a bad storm, was trying to call for help and apparently, call never went through. Found dead in bed w phone in hand and 911 dialed, sadly.

I'm in the northeast and have T-Mobile for personal and Verizon for work. I don't notice much of a difference in cell service from either. As far as customer service goes, I can't really speak on Verizon but Sprint/T-Mobile has always done a good job for me when issues or questions arise.

Thanks for that website. Very helpful tool. It looks like the Verizon Visible plan would be my best deal. Unlimited talk, text, and data for $30/month. I could deal with that. Right now we are paying near $90 per line (taxes included) for the same through AT&T. I may have to be the guinea pig and try it out.

I had verizon and ATT and the price they charge is insane. I switched to tmobile and couldn't be happier. Pay 70.00 a month for 2 lines unlimited everything and free netflix. No issue with it working anyplace at all plus traded in my old iphone for a brand new one for free.

We've been with Sprint for a long time and have always had excellent experiences. I was worried about the T-Mobile merger, but it was seamless (just had to swap Sim cards in the phones). And we've now switched to T-Mobile fixed wireless internet to replace the horrid cable service we used to have. I'm sure it varies by area, but we're very content.

We were forever Verizon customers who switched to T-Mobile at the beginning of July. My husband and I had always been on separate Verizon plans (due to work reasons) and we now had the opportunity to combine plans. Two motivating factors for us was the fact my husband qualifies us for their senior discount and we spend several weeks a year in Italy and their International service and cost is far, far less than Verizon.

We live in the Atlanta area and I honestly have had no issues with coverage. As a matter of fact, at home, I would say my coverage is better. This was my biggest fear and the thing that kept me from agreeing to switch sooner.

However, I will agree with other posters about the fact that it does matter where you live and what your local coverage is like.

Exactly. It depends on where you live. Corporate switched all 64 locations to AT&T to save money. They also stopped moving two way radios from old company cars to new ones. AT&T has huge coverage holes in the Sierra Nevada mountains which was dangerous because our crews spend a lot of time in the snow during the winter. Came to a head when crews discovered how to force their AT&T phones onto the Verizon system, which caused huge charges to corporate. Last I heard we are the only location allowed to switch back to Verizon, and they started installing two way radios in new cars again. Boiled down to a safety issue.

Where are you located if you don’t mind sharing?

I need a hotspot for our RV. A group we belong to uses the ATT network. It has unlimited data with speeds up to 25mb for $69. Obviously it's dependent on how many people are tying up the towers, but they don't throttle back after a certain amount of time. I have been using my phone to hotspot when needed for years, but that's the problem... I've had the phone for years (2014). It's really giving me fits lately, aside from age I think it's also starting to fill up with data. Apps are getting problematic, etc.
Lastly, I'm on Verizon. It's way too expensive and I have very poor reception here in Central Florida. It worked well in MD but I haven't lived in MD for some time.
I'll look at the coverage map for ATT but I figured I'd ask you all too. I'll be using it for travel so the most coverage available is important. Entertainment is a plus but I'll use it for telework primarily.
If it works I will probably switch my phones off of Verizon.
