Just wondering, how do you guys protect your camera or cell phone while on Splash or GRR? In the past, when I go with my family, my dad hates getting wet on rides, so he sits out and holds our stuff.

Last time I went without family, I only rode Splash, which seems a bit easier to hide your stuff, but on GRR there really is nowhere to hide your things to protect them from getting wet!

Anyone have any tips on how to make sure your electronic stuff is protected while still enjoying the ride? I usually bring a little wristlet that i fit my camera and phone into that zips up but i'm afraid that won't be enough, and water can easily get through any small space in the zipper.
Thanks! :goodvibes

On Splash I've never gotten too wet and can just put my hand over my pocket with the things in it.

Near the entrance to GRR are free lockers.

Oh really? I didn't know this! That makes my life so much easier! I would hate running back and forth to the regular lockers just for one ride.
Do you get a combination or is it just kinda open and whoever wants to can put their stuff there? Either way its fine, I feel pretty safe leaving some stuff out at DLR.
Thanks for the info!

I do jillian. i take a bag and put my cell and camera's in it and close it up, like a ziploc bag..

1 drop of water on splash killed my palm last year! never again! use the ziplock bag and the lockers for the rapids

I wish I could remember exactly. I think you put your pass into it and you can use it for two hours. Whatever it is they are simple to use and safe. They are semi big if you need to also stuff in some clothes to keep them dry.

I wanted to add, that they are on the left of the entrance and behind a wall so you don't see them right from the path.

I used a ziploc bag but I think I will use the lockers as posted. Finally got a good phone and great camera

Cells go into sandwich bag and we use a waterproof cam for the pics and movies.

I didn't have my camera exposed to any water, but I had a digital watch that was toasted by GRR. :)

The plastic/Ziplock bags sounds like a good suggestion to me. I don't normally do either ride, but the one time I went on Splash I got pretty soaked and what saved my camera was my camera bag. It witheld the water pretty darn well. Soaked on the outside and not a single drop on the inside.

Or just don't bring them into the park. We leave our expensive gadgets in the room cellphones and all, can't risk them getting wet like jemilah said, just one drop of water and his palm was out...no good...

They are exactly like the regular lockers, except that they are free for 2 hours. The kiosk assigns you a locker and you set your own access code. If you exceed the 2 hour limit, you are charged the regular daily rental rate of $7 to open the locker.

thank you! :goodvibes
also the ziplock bag sounds great for Splash! i usually just hide it in my lap and cover it with my arms or bend down over it when the huge splashes come. or hide it inside my sweatshirt or something. it works well except if you're in the front.....

I used to do the Ziploc thing on GRR but now I use the free lockers. Besides purses, cams, etc. I also but my sodas in there as well. Works like a charm.

When you go to get one you use the touch screen to locate an available locker. It will flash (green I think) so you can find it. You put your things in it and then press the button to lock it. You will receive a print out with your access code (you don't pick it). Use that code to retrieve your items within 2 hours for no charge. After that you will have to pay so if you think you might keep it longer than 2 hours make sure you keep out some way to pay to get the locker to open. Also, protect your receipt. I usually put it between my DD and my AP which I keep in my pocket. If it gets a little wet as long as I can still read it all is good.

On Splash I put everything in my bag and protect it with my body if neccessary. A ziploc would be great for this ride though.

DLR has updated all of their lockers some time since we were there a year ago. Last month, we used the GRR lockers and with the new system the machine assigns you the locker, but you are prompted to enter your own 4 digit access code. It's a little confusing, because you actually have to enter the code twice, but the touch screen prompt for this is not obvious. I got instruction on this from an experienced onlooker when I couldn't get the locker to open...the machine was waiting for me to enter the code the second time for verification. The next day, when we got an actual rental locker, it was the new type. The new lockers were everywhere we rented for the duration of our trip.

I like the new system a lot better, as you only have to remember where your locker is (you do still get a printed ticket that tells you your assigned locker's number) and you already know your access code. Last year I would get so stressed out at the thought of losing the ticket with the randomly assigned 6 digit access code. :scared1:

Good point about keeping out a form of payment if you think you might exceed 2 hours....that thought had never occurred to me.

I love that they allow you to use your own code now. I used lockers for the first time this October and they assigned me a code. I took a picture of my receipt with my cell phone in case i lost the paper, and guess what my cell phone died before the night was over! :scared1: luckily i still had the receipt, all buried with my cards/cash. :thumbsup2 i thought i was being smart by taking a picture, didn't think that my phone might die!

Wow, so those lockers really are quite new! I kind of suspected this was the case, as the credit card billing made absolutely no sense! Most days, we rented large lockers which I thought were supposed to be $10. On my credit card statement, I had a charge of $0.10 for each day plus a second charge of $7 (which is supposed to be the price of the regular size lockers). On the final day, we had extra clothes for the rain, so we wanted a jumbo locker. But on the touch screen they only had options for regular and large, even though there were numerous jumbos available. We selected large, but were assigned a jumbo. The jumbos are supposed to be $15, but I was only charged $10. Then after we got home, the $0.10 charges were credited back. Obviously there were some bugs in the system. :confused3

I usually keep my cell phone in a sandwich size ziploc bag and have a gallon size one for everyone to put their stuff in.
