Has anyone been lately? How was it? Anyone have pics?

I assume you mean the Big Thunder Ranch BBQ? We did it last week of July and it was pretty good. With four teenage boys, the all-you-can-eat BBQ was welcome. Kids said they would like to do it again sometime. Entertainment was minimal - a few singers singing western trail songs mostly. We were not in a picture taking mood apparently and did not take any. :)

We went in late June and we were very disappointed. It was pretty empty but we had to wait a very long time for our food. The food was okay, not great but not horrible. I love coleslaw and it was barely edible. We were supposed to have corn on the cob but it was never served. We asked about it and our waiter said it would be out but it never came The beans were pretty good and the ribs were tasty. The entertainment was annoying at best.
And it took over 20 mins to pay the bill. It was our last day and we had 3 families so everyone gave me cash and one person gave a disney gift card. The waiter came back a few mins later since we were short $2.xx I handed my debit card to pay for the rest of the balance and tip and the waiter went in to the back. Everyone else went on ahead and I was going to meet up with them but I ended up waiting 20+ mins and had to ask for the waiter to come back with my card and receipt to sign 3 times. Needless to say they didn't get a very good tip.

Wow, that does sound horrible! My experience was different. Not totally recent...these pics are from 3 months ago.

We really enjoyed this meal. I'm not usually a eat-meat-right-off-the-bone kind of girl, but I abandoned that rule here. It was that good. I'm not normally a coleslaw fan, but I ate the entire bowl myself. I thought the cornbread was a little too crumbly. It totally fell apart when you tried to butter it up, but it was still good. And I usually skip cornbread. The beans were excellent. Basically, we loved all the food. We went for lunch. It's my understanding that the dinner meal comes with everything here, as well as sausages and little corn on the cob wheels. We had great, prompt service and would put this on our list of must-do meals in the future.

Here's a link to my DIS blog, Culinary Quest. We visited the bbq in July and I wrote about our lunch experience (pics included). We enjoyed it, but, for whatever reason, it is one of those places that elicits many and varied reactions.

Cool~ I just checked out your blog. I didn't realize there was entertainment, I just saw the menu on allears. We're going to have Premier passes, and we're DVC members- what's the discount? 10%?
Do you think it's necessary to make an ADR?

Hey thanks! I think for our family it might be worth giving it a shot.

Is this walk-in or do you need a reservation?

With the DLR Premium AP you get 15% at most of the in-park restaurants, so with a Premier AP, I'm guessing it would be the same. If not, you should at least get 10%. CMs will often ask if you have an AP, but not always, so be sure to ask before paying. ADRs are really not necessary.

It was better when it was Woody's round up to me. Better entertainment for the kids and dessert and drink was included. Now drinks and desserts are charged separately. Woody and Jesse were around to take pictures and be part of the entertainment and there was also audience participation in the entertainment. Now the two singers that are there seem.....bored...and annoyed.....and under appreciated.

3monkeys4me I sure hope you didn't include a tip because gratuity is included in the bill (I specifically asked to make we didn't have to leave a tip)

Also they need to have a kids menu option. My 4 year old is not going to eat bbq plus he's autistic so he will freak out in his hands are dirty with bbq sauce. We ended up getting him chicken nuggets from the pinochio restuarant close by and brought it in. Luckily they mind and didn't charge us for him...just his drink.

So why did we go? Well we went to Woody's roundup last year and enjoyed it and didn't realize it had changed until after we sat down, I wondered why we didn't take pictures beforeand , where the characters were and why everyone seemed depressed. Our waiter informed us of the change and by then we were too hungry and tired to go elsewhere.

Oh and waited 20+ minutes for our dessert (For those of you that have a BJ's restaurant in town it's the equivalent of a pizookie)

I don't think I left a tip I am fairly cetain we were charged 15% gratuity.

I will say they did bring out some chicken without sauce for our picky eaters. :thumbsup2

last May when we were there we went to the bbq and i was a little unsure of the cost but after having lunch there we will definitly be going back on our next trip in Feb

Really? We eat here every time we go to DL and I never knew this. Thanks for posting this!

We were there in May and have been previously and love the place. It is very low-key. The entertainers we had were not bored or unhappy - the opposite was true. Additionally, the wait staff was VERY sweet and attentive! I noted the tip was included but added 5 percent, as we do not tip 15 percent, but that is just our practice.

The coleslaw is vinegar based rather than mayonaise based - that is possibly why one of the posters did not care for it - personally, I don't like either! LOL. But we do enjoy the rest of the food.

I agree that reviews and opinions on the BBQ seem to vary greatly, but for us, this is the best place to eat other than Napa Rose and is the equivalent (in different ways) to Carnation Cafe.

We always do the reservations, but when we have gone, there has been plenty of seating available for walk-ups.

:hippie:

We also got a Disney Visa discount. Not sure if it's a publicized one, but it's right there on my receipt.

The Premier pass entitles you to the ame discounts as the premium pass, 15% in the restaurants (pretty much all of them outside of Downtown Disney) and 20% off of merchandise until sometime in September, then it drops back to 10%.

Also, please note that many places inside Garden Walk and other surrounding attractions give some kind of passholder discount, if you are within about 1 mile of the park, I would always ask, the worst they will say is no.

A Disney visa discount too?!! cool! Thanks for all the tips, I think we will defnitely be dining here.

I ate there on Saturday (8/14). We walked up around 1:00 pm and waited about 15-minutes to be seated. The biggest drawback is that it is an outdoor venue so some of the seating is the sun (which can be pretty hot) and there are bugs flying round (bees and flies).

The food was really good. My family really liked the ribs and asked for more to be brought out. I like the beans and cornbread as well. The drinks were kept filled (which was nice).

We also ordered the baked cookie and ice cream dessert, which is perfect for four normal size eaters. It takes about 20-minutes after ordering, so if you decide to have it, order it while your eating.

This was our second time going to the BBQ (first time was in April) and we definitely plan to go back!
