Who is going?

Me, DH, DD4, DS (turning two on EASTER), Nanny (my mom), Pawpaw (my dad), and AA (my sister)

Me, DH and DD (on her very first trip to disney, well my DH's first trip as well) December 2007:

No fear. DS on his first trip sept 2009 (which was our last trip... almost two years and we are getting the itch BAD)
IMG_2275.jpg

When did our planning start?

Late last summer on a late evening walk. We realized we were getting ready for our last trip to disney (sept 2009) at this time and how much we missed it and we wanted to go back.

Then it went to we should go aroud DS's b-day this time because we had gone for DD's b-day twice.

So, from there we figured out that AA's spring break (she is a 1st grade teacher) actually was around DS's 2nd birthday. We were so excited and the planning started.

We immediately had to make the decision that this trip would be DS's birthday party and we would not be able to afford a b-day party in addition to this trip.

We searched hotel prices for this time. Descided that SOG was best for us at this time and booked.

I then immediately counted out my days.... we were going to eat at CRT!!!

Trip Report began:

Arrival day

Day 1 Part 1 (epcot)

Day 1, Part 2 (mk, and chef mickey's)

Day 2, Part 1 (DHS)

Day 2, Part 2 (MK and BBB)

Day 3: One full day of Magic... kingdom

Day 4: AK and some of epcot

Hey there! I'm here and I'm first! :woohoo: Second time being first!! I could get used to this! :lmao: Loving your plans so far! :)

from past experience and chatting with friends i learned about the 180 policy for highly sought after reservations and i knew i wanted in on some of that.

My strategy for this was to be flexible with our overall plans until we actually had the CRT reservations. I knew we didn't want to do it on sun the 24th (Easter and my DS's birthday) so, i stayed away from that one.

I set my alarm to remind me to call disney dining every morning to see what reservations were available. the slight benefit of this is i am a nurse and work night shift so i called every morning on my way home from work.

So, on Oct 26th we scored chef mickey reservations for my son's birthday dinner celebration. We will also have a specialty cake delivered to this dinner.

and

On Oct 27th, we scored CRT for april 25th. I wanted to call everyday so that i didn't limit myself to only one day and miss out on it.

then,

On Oct 28th, I called again and they had the same reservations available for a day later and I switched over so that our character meals were not back to back (literally.... dinner then breakfast the next day).

I immediately set up BBB for my DD4 the evening before CRT so she would have the dress to wear to the breakfast. I figured i could touch up her hair that morning and she would be set.

chef mickeys, BBB, and CRT were our priorities. After that we slowly made some other reservations.

all of our ADRs include:

Sat:
Whispering canyon cafe 6:05pm

Sun:
Rose and Crown pum lunch 12:00pm (boys lunch)
Chef Mickey's 5:30PM

Mon:
Mama Melrose's Lunch 1:25pm
BBB at MK 4:00PM

tues:
Cinderella's royal table breakfast 8:10 am
Harmony barber shop DS haircut 3:00pm
Plaza Resturant dinner 5:25PM

These plans came over time. Started out as other reservations, changed to others. most definantely a working progress.

Side funny note: It wasn't until after all these things have been reserved that we realized that EASTER was on my DS's birthday, lol. We all looked at each other and took about 2.5 seconds to all agree to continue with our plans!!! :yay::yay::yay:

I don't know why I am so stressed about this trip. We have not been since september 09 so maybe that is it, but I have been in crazy mode (as my family puts it) planning, getting items ready. I want details to be perfect. I have future plans in the works, but they aren't going to be for awhile unless we make a quick MNSSHP or MVMCP trip.

So, I have been busy buying things we will need for the trip and going ahead and packing some of it. I know we don't leave for another 3 weeks but. We are not using these items now, so why not make a list, and cross it off. It makes me feel sooo accomplished, lol.

I have purchased:
toiletries
over the door organizer
new pop up hamper (ours died)
activites for the kids
etc.

since we are going to spend Easter in disney we are even taking the easter baskets. So, easter basket goodies are purchased and packed.

Boy child: Thomas dvd (he is obessed with trains), bubbles, spiral toy story note book so he can write in a book insted of the autograph book. mini toy story flashlight, candy.

girl child: Tangled DVD, bubbles, spiral princess note book for same reason, mini princess flashlight, candy

The boy child of course is also celebrating his 2nd birthday on Easter so we have the following planned:

DS will wake up to a room full of mylar disney balloons (and one thomas balloon).
Birthday dinner will be at chef mickey's and a specialty mickey mouse cake will arrive there (will order 72 hours in advance)

STRESSING:
I have seriously thought about camera situation EVERY SINGLE DAY. The issue I have is I love photography and I have a nice canon 50d, but every time its in my hand i change modes to wanting to get the most creatively and technically exposed shot and im slow so i end up spending a lot of time changing settings asking the family to pose again, and well, they get frustrated.

So, my dh ordered me a high end p&s to take so i can capture the moment but not miss it. It was nice but i felt like the amount money we spent on that was just silly. So, it went back and i was back on the DSLR is going to disney. But, i think i want both to go. So, now im back in the market for a cheaper, yet GOOD P&S camera.

On top of that, my only lens, is having issues. So it has been sent off for service and I am praying that it returns to me before we leave. If not, then I will have to take my rebel xt with kit lens.

I am also thinking about pre ordering the photopass this time. We have never done this before nor have we ever ordered any pictures from photopass, but i also had some very silly misconceptions regarding the photopass that were cleared up on here and I am ever so greatful.

Autograph book FAIL
I have also been *trying* to make my kids autograph books. I think they are a huge FAIL. I have hit brick wall after brick wall. I just don't know what to do there, nor do I have the time to pull something out of my rear, lol

Breathe and breath and breathe.

Reservation are made...
ADRs made...
BBB and Harmony barber shop booked...
Rough touring plans sketched out...

now for make a priority list. So here are ours:

1. Meet Tiana. She is new since our last visit
2. Meet Rapunzel. I have a plan, I hope it works. I *wanted* to have ADRs in CRT early in the morning so we could enter MK with very little people to get rockin' pics infront of the castle. But, the day I got reservations was on EMH (AM) and the park opens at 7am. Our reservations are at 8:10. I am hoping that as we wrap up breakfast, I will send an adult to the Rapunzel line as we gather things, kids, stroller, potty break, etc.
3. Find a new "spot" to take progression pictures. Ours is no longer.

So for a quick tour down our memory lane in Minnie's Gazebo in her backyard:

can you tell someone is two?!?!

Does anyone ever feel like somone is out to sabotage your disney plans. If one more thing goes wrong (knock on wood), I might have to have a tantrum like my kids have. Positive side, maybe if all the things that go wrong happen before the trip, then the trip will be beautiful, right?

We are 11 days out and a few things have me really stressed.

First off, this trip is for my Son's birthday. This IS his birthday party. So, for his actual birthday I planned to have a t-shirt made for him and a pillowcase dress for my dd. Well, one thing after another, getting mixed up in the path of a bad etsy seller, I am still without shirt for ds. DDs dress has arrived. Its beautiful and perfect. But, I would feel so guilty letting her wear that if ds doensn't have a shirt. Its his birthday! So, I have a good friend making me one at the last minute. It should be ready friday. :worship: I owe her BIG TIME.

Secondly, we are still waiting for my camera lens to be fixed and mailed back to us. It may or may not make it back before we leave. I am nervous because: 1. I won't have my good camera with us at disney if this happens. So, im really thinking about pre ordering the photopass. 2. Im worried that the lens will arrive like the day after we leave and it will just be sitting there on my porch while we are gone. So, I am thinking about hiring the two sweet kids nextdoor to get our mail and take any packages off our porch and save them for us in their house.

Third... I had to redesign a personalized autograph book and waiting for those to arrive. I have spent soooo much money around this project. It makes me sick. I say it all the time. My planning and ideas are wonderful. My execution is AWFUL!!!

Does anyone else have experiences like this? everything going wrong at the last minute???

one of the autograph books arrive today :banana:

and

MY LENS IS HOME!!!! :cool1::cool1:

mark 1 1/2 things off my stressing list

SEVEN DAYS!!!

It is really getting hard to contain myself. DH is even starting to have ants in his pants. So its really getting hard to concentrate on reality right now. Good thing is I have to work the next 4 nights so, that will have me preoccupied some. But, then I am off for 3 days before we actually leave. I can't promise anyone what kind of silly thread I will start at the last minute, lol, so be prepared.

Today I thought I would share some of the personal touches I have created or bought for our trip.

The stroller tag since our stroller seems to be one of the most popular doubles outside companies rent:

I have only been a member on DIS for a short time but, i wanted to show my pride. Without everyone here, i would have never realized my disney dreams. So, this is maybe not so much for people to acutally speak to me if you see my green mickey but more of a thank you for all your help :)

I am still working on matching shirts for the adults to wear on DS's birthday. Another lovely DISer is helping on this one.

we are back, and I once again have learned so much to remember for our next trip. I can't wait to get started on the actual trip report. stay tuned.

We drove down to disney on Saturday April 23rd. I was so proud of us for setting a time goal to leave the house and we did it with ONE minute to spare. The directions said it would take 7 hours and 51 minutes to arrive. But, as we all know with a 4 year old, turning 2 year old, and heck, me with the potty breaks. We drove thru for meals and made quick bathroom breaks. The weather and traffic were perfect and we arrive in 8 hours and 15 minutes with all breaks. woohoo!!!! ( i think dh was ready to be there and im sure he drove a hair over the speed limit)

One major difference with the drive (other then we used to only live 3 hours away), was since we came down on a different interstate, we didn't come in via interstate 4, we did have the huge welcome disney signs, etc. Dh made a comment to the affect that we up through the bowels of disney, lol. But, Idk we were FINALLY HERE!!!

WE got checked in no problems (other then having to wait about 30 minutes or so for our rooms to be ready. no big deal. we actually made great time).

DSC00155.JPG

Organized the room as best as we could and got changed so we could head to dinner. Rode the SOG bus to the TTC, activated our tickets. Had a little scare because we had forgotten tha there was a black out on our tickets (through this day, but we weren't using them until the following day) and about had a heart attack with the really sweet but really much older lady told us we couldn't use the tickets. We exlpained what we were doing, and we got all on the same page, and everything was fine, but not before I almost peed my pants.

Then we rode the monorail to MK, then hopped on the WL boat to the Whispering canyon cafe.

DSC00169.JPG

While on the boat realized i forgot to take the diaper bag, and just hoped the boy child didn't lay a stink while we were gone. We were just going to dinner, and he had just given us a surpise in the hotel room. FAT CHANCE. as we are sitting at the table, i start to smell it. Really? I had to go pay $13 or so for a small pack of diapers and wipes in the giftshop. OUCH!

After dinner we walked around, toured a room (thinking about going back for Christmas/DD's 5th birthday)

Headed back to our hotel and bathed the kids, packed and organized for the next day, then lights out!!!

Day one in the parks, started early, but not quite early enough since DH and I seemed to neither one set our alarms clocks right

AA came and woke us up over 30 minutes later then we wanted to be up. It was Easter sunday, Harrison's 2nd birthday :bday:

Harrison woke up to disney (and one thomas) mylar baloons all around his bead

IMG_0217.jpg

First stop in epcot... Soarin

and... she is tall enough!!!
IMG_0223.jpg

She did great until the fireworks at the end. Sort of freaked out over those.

Then, we headed over to test track to find some technical difficulties. So, we got fast passes and headed to Nemo

IMG_0227.jpg

IMG_0228.jpg

DD handled test track ok. again freaked out at the end when it got really fast. Also, dh and I should have sat with her instead of AA and Pawpaw. I think they made her more nervous.

*you can go ahead and mark this as her last big girl ride, lol.*

The boys had a special boys only birthday lunch at the Rose crown and pub. They gave it two thumbs up. They even brought out desert and a birthday card signed by the staff for ds.

DSC00201.JPG

We (the girls) ate a quick lunch, rode living with the land, and got in line to see some fairies

Bath, Re-organize/pack, and lights out!!!

I triple checked my alarm to make sure we got up on time today. I actually woke up 10 minutes before the alarm :cool1:

We made Rope drop for DHS, not at the rope but pretty close. I didn't care how long it took, we were going to ride TSM.

IMG_2898.jpg

and...

we did....

TWICE!!!

We got in line, then afterwards, we all agreed we had to ride that again, so we got fastpasses. Our return time was 10:00-11:00AM.

My kids loved Mr. Potato head

After the ride we split up some. My mom and dh went to ride ToT, but later found out they rode it 3x back to back to back and rode RnR and the great movie ride.

The resident wimps did the following:
1. saw chip n dale:
IMG_0467.jpg

2. The great movie ride

3. The voyage of the little mermaid

4. Disney Junior live on stage:

After we met back up, we got in line to see Buzz and Woody:

IMG_0487.jpg

IMG_0494.jpg

We decided to cancel our Mama Melrose's Lunch reservations. no on really wanted to sit and eat heavy Italian food and then be in the HOT HOT sun. We called the dining number to cancel and the lady (using that term only to point out she was female, not a lady at all), was SO rude. Makes me just want to stand my reservations up vs. actually calling and letting them know we changed our minds. I was shocked. try to do the appropriate thing, and still get hassled :confused3

After our quick light lunch, we headed back to MK...

We started out with DD insisting on riding Dumbo with a 40 minute wait OUCH.
So, AA took her
IMG_0502.jpg

While we waited, dh and I took DS on the carousel. DS was not all too impressed

We decided to head back to the hotel and eat wings from the sportsbar thing at SOG. Can't remember the name of it to save my life.

Bath, reorganize/pak and Lights out!!!

BBB review: This was our first time doing BBB at the castle. The last time we did BBB was september 2009 at the DTD location. I thinked I liked the DTD experience better. There were some different variables:
1. Layout of the salon seemed more spacious at DTD
2. Didn't feel like it was a mass production line at DTD (which time of year could have played a huge role)
3. Photographer at the DTD was way better. After reviewing the pictures, the photographer at MK maybe got decent shots. and by decent i mean ones that were actually looking in the direction of the camera. The majority of them were either eyes closed or crazy eyes looking off.

Over all we felt rushed. It wasn't bad, not enough to even say anything. It was still a great experience. DD loved it. One other thing I need to suggest is for disney to GET MORE 9-10 sized shoes!!! If its a popular size, then order more. To me, that is a poor excuse. "well, right now we only have 2 styles of shoes in her size. Sorry, its such a popular size" ok....and? sounds like poor managing. Really, only had one option because the only other option, we already owned and I was not going to rebuy them. If keeping too many styles of shoes in each size is an issue, then get a generic shoe that can go with everything and stock pile each size with extras in the "popular size". ok, vent over.

As already stated we stayed at SOG. I know someone mentioned to truely make rope drop i needed to think about walking over to the poly and taking the monorail.

Well, that was good advice other then I just didn't feel like walking past the aligator pond to do so.

The buses only start running 30 minutes prior to park opening but they should really think about starting even 15 minutes before that for the two parks that have more then one leg to get to the park like MK and epcot. We Missed the opening ceremony while we waited for what seemed like forever for the one running monorail from TTC to MK. GRRRRR.

But, let me just say, on a positive side, this one hour EMH (not really making rope drop) was the MOST productive hour in the whole week.

In that one hour we:

1. got a couple of family shots in front of the castle with minimum random people in the back ground

2. visited with Mary Poppins

3. Rode dumbo/ got fastpasses for peter pan

4. Snow White's scary adventure

5. Winnie the pooh

6. tea cups

7. It's a small world

8. Carousel

ALL before our 8:10AM reservations at CRT!!! WOOT!!!!

IMG_0648.jpg

I took the advice of a member on her about putting someone in the dumbo infront of the kid riding to get pictures. So, AA got it dumbo #1, then I and DD got in dumbo #2 (behind AA), and then DH and DS got in dumbo #3 (behind me and DD). AA got a picture of Me and DD and I got a picture of DH and DS... SCORE!!!

Afternoon full of rides, we headed to the front of the park for the big boy's first haircut

We then ate some icecream outside of the parlor in the sun. (not a good idea). Afterwards we walked around in the shops to cool off before our dinner reservations at the Plaza Resturant.

I love that place. The cheese steak and housemade chips are just so yummy.

On our way out we decided that DS needed to visit with Mickey Mouse with his new look

Not sure if anyone is reading along, or even enjoying our adventure, but none the less.... The last day.

Animal Kingdom and I have a love/hate relationship. I don't want to steer people away from Animal Kingdom from my crazy luck (or whatever you want to call it), but I just can never seem to get what people LOVE about this park. I was determined to give Animal Kingdom another 1/2 day try. I was so pumped that this day was going to be great, but I was let down again.

We had another early early morning planned, as Disney so kindly change EMH from 8:00AM to 7:00AM for our last day in the parks. We planned to spend our early EMH at Animal Kingdom (AK). We arrived on time and was handed this piece of paper letting us know which attractions would be open for EMH.

extra%20magic%20hour%20list.JPG

But, lets take a closer look at what Animal Kingdom has to offer this early in the morning.

extra%20magic%20hour%20list%20closer%20look.jpg

I didn't notice originally the sort of fine print next to the Safari and the exploration trail that neither of them opened until 7:45AM. So, we headed straight back to the Safari to get, "Sorry, the safari will not open until blah blah blah, get a fast pass". (Strike 1)

So, then we tried to step right over to the exploration trail to get what I think is the FUNNIEST phrase anyone could ever say at Disney's Animal Kingdom. "I am sorry, but the exploration trail is closed until 7:45", Me: "So, what is open? and why isn't this open until 7:45am?" CM: "Sorry, but everything to do with *Animals* doesn't open until 7:45AM each day regardless of park opening?" Really? So, you mean to say you are going to open up "Animal kingdom" at 7:00AM, but don't expect to see any "animals" until 7:45!!! (Strike 2)

We walked over to Dinoland USA or something like that to ride the TriceraTop spin (aka dumbo ride themed like a dinosaur). We rode it twice without even getting off. Then we went over to ride Dinosaur. This ride is really intense so we didn't even give Harper a choice. She was technically tall enough, but I didn't want to scar her for life. My mom took the kids in a store while we enjoyed the ride.

*side note* EVERY gift shop was open*

DSC00273.JPG

After this area, we walked over to do It's tough to be a bug, only to find it was having technical difficulties and would resume as soon as they were fixed. (STRIKE 3)

But we got to see this pretty bird near that entrance

DSC00274.JPG

By this time, it was approaching the magical 7:45am and we were able to do another trail with lots of other animals and birds (can't remember the name off the top of my head). At the beginning, you got a animal guide to help you spot the animals and birds. Harper carried it around finding the animals. She was like our little explorer. Very cute!

We wandered over to see the festival of the Lion King show. I have never seen this one. We have seen the Nemo show and it is fantastic. Since the Lion King is being re-released on DVD this fall, I wanted the kids to see it.

DSC00304.JPG

Luck, Karma, whatever!!!! But, it started, it was amazing, the kids were glued to the performers. About 1/2 way through, all of a sudden the lights go up, the performers leave the stage.... and....

IMG_2967.jpg

"Due to unforeseen circumstance, we need to end this performance of the festival of the Lion King. Please exit the building"

WHAT?!?!?!

are you serious?

come to find out, part of the stage caught fire. I am so relieved no one was hurt, but really can this day get anymore strange? dh and I both agree, even though we didn't get to see the whole performance, it was worth every minute of it. I will try to see this one again (if we ever go back to AK, that is)

We then cashed in our fast passes for the Safari which the kids loved!!!

DSC00309.JPG

DSC00310.JPG

After the safari we finally went through the exploration trail to see the rest of the animals

He was so close to the glass and he was watching everyone walking past. He was guarding his baby who was walking around with the Mama.

DSC00327.JPG

DSC00330.JPG

I had to grab some lunch at one of my favorite quick service places. They have the best chicken fried rice. YUM.

DSC00334.JPG

After lunch, we headed back to the hotel to rest. It only took us 4 days to realize the heat and humidity wasn't leaving and we needed to get out of the direct sun for a few hours each day. We finally listened.

After a few hours out of the sun, no sleeping, not really resting too much, but just out of the sun, we headed to Epcot for one more magical night.

At this moment time seem to speed up to the speed of test track or something. We completely ran out of time. Started in Mexico and stopped in America. Didn't get to pick a pearl, didn't get my baclava, didn't get my pastry from France, etc. :(

After 10-15-maybe 20+ ( i really have no idea) trips to disney over my lifetime, I do expect the more frequent the trips the more likely there is to be a not so good trip, or some things that aren't good about a trip. I am ok with that.

Our trip was wonderful, much needed break from reality. We did notice some things that just didn't seem the same from previous trips or just didn't seem typical "Disney" style, if that makes sense. You can read about it
showthread.php
and one small complaint regarding photopass here.

I decided, PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME, email the company regarding a few of the details. I feel like these things were not emergent enough to take a break out of my day to go directly to customer service and deal with them, nor did I let these things totally ruin my trip. I just can't let that happen and won't either.

But, like I said, after so many trips over the years, these things just stuck out to us as a whole group and I thought they were worthy of a little note to the company so maybe I could say one day that I was part of that change :wizard:

So, I emailed the company, and received an automatic "we received your message and we appreciate you and the time you took, blah. We will make sure your message is sent the person who needs to read it"

Ok, fine. It was sent. I got a somewhat generic response. But, its there and its done.

or I thought...

On Mother's day, of all days, I get a call from a customer service rep from disney!!! He called regarding my email. He was sooo kind. I mean so seriously nice, I almost felt guilty for even emailing them in the first place. He obviously read the email, if not a couple of times and really wanted to hear the story from my mouth regarding some of the events. So, I kindly explained everything to him, but also making sure he understood that:
1. we love disney, still
2. we have gone to disney a lot
3. we are going back (december to be exact)
So, regardless of these small events, it didn't ruin our trip, we didn't let it, but we just felt like it was not traditional over the top disney best, kwim?

He was so kind and very interested in what I had to say. He even complimented me on my email because he said, unlike a lot of emails, he could actually pull suggestions from my email rather then a whole bunch of paragraphs saying "disney sucks" ,lol.

One of the issues had to do with a CM's attitude near the Tiana meet and greet. There was some scheduling problems with Tiana (as we had seen the whole trip. Disney changed their hours but i don't think they took enough time to make sure their rears were covered when it came to actually operating the place) and she wasn't going to be meeting until 5pm (which we found out later... its a long story), and he asked if my daughter did actually get to see tiana and I told him no.

He asked if he could send my daughter an autographed picture of tiana with a tiana doll. I told him that was extremely nice, and not necessary, but my daugther would flip to just get anything in the mail. He insisted in getting her name and our address to send her something since she didn't get to see Tiana. I even said, listen.... She is 4 she doesn't even realize she never saw Tiana. She isn't losing any sleep over it, and neither am I. Like I said, sooo sweet. We will see what comes in the mail.

I was NOT trying to get anything from this. I want Disney to be Disney like it has for all these years and all these other wonderful trips we have had, and I felt like mentioning that it wasn't quite the same. Not totally ruined, but not the same.

It was a wonderful conversation, with me almost in tears from the generosity of the getleman trying to make it up to my dd.

Overall the trip was fabulous!!!

We didn't get to do a lot of things we wanted to, which gives us a great reason to go back, soon!

1. photopass cd= mission complete. returned the disc, (at the expense of me, lesson learned), and asked for a them to do a reproduction of my disc. and Viola! the images i forgot to add from chef mickey's and CRT were on there.

2. My daughter did receive a special package from "mickey mouse" stating his apologies for her not getting to see tiana. Here is what it included:
