Celebrating My Break Even Point

Just celebrating!
So a few years ago I bought my first resale at OKW,,(paid cash) --just 39 points.and a few banked points.(39)
Then I added on another small point contract through Disney 28 (paid cash),,,,,then I added another small point contract through Disney 25 (paid cash).
92 points in total ,,,the perfect amount for me to stay once a year for 6 -7 nights.
Total cost between 8,000--$9,000.
2004-2016+ 12 years of use--(12 vacations) plus one extra bonus trip.

My purchase of DVC was strife with alot of opposition from friends and family.
I did do alot of research to ease their fears--personally toured the all the DVC resorts and read everything I could find, ate free ice cream at the DVC viewing centre,joined three online Disney boards to gather info,
talked with my family real estate lawyer and accountant.
Some of their fears and concerns were:
"timeshares are a scam'
"you won't want to go to the same place every year"
" your just throwing good money away'
" you'll never use it after a couple of years"
etc, etc, etc......
Well I still love going every year and friends and family are always asking to come along.LOL.

We spend way more money on vacations now then we would have otherwise.

But we also create memories we otherwise would not have.

We also stay in nicer accommodations than we would otherwise have allowed ourselves to stay in.

We also see friends and family we otherwise would not see or spend time with.

So it works out overall for us!

Congrats! You post prompted to me to look at my spreadsheet that I keep for costs. I usually just guesstimate it when people ask but we actually broke even at year 6 if I go by the total we paid for ownership compared to rack prices at WDW. We will break even this year (year 8) if we go by what it would have cost us to rent points instead or if I include all the dues to date based on rack rate. However, taking into account our cost for dues and going by rental points, I would estimate that break even is around year 15-17. Pretty daunting number compared to 6 years but still very good when considering the contract is for 49yrs.

We celebrated breaking even on our 60 point contract by buying 100 more points.
