Celebrating my big 4-0 with the Big Cheese - Update 11/13, page 19

So cool that you guys got to see the geyser go off! WL is also one of my dream resorts, right after Beach Club.

I kinda forgot that Pop had been refurbed so I'm really excited to see it in person in January! I do really like that rug too :thumbsup2

And you're off!!!! What a great start but an early one.

How nice you could chill. Sorry the text message alert did not work for you. I have never had a problem so I guess I am in the minority.:confused3

A dip in the pool is great way to start vacation.
I did the geyser run too! :lmao: Too bad you did not enjoy the skillet. I streered away from it because DS is picky about spices so we stuck to steak.

I bet you slept well that night. :goodvibes

I'm right with you on the dream resorts! The POP rooms look really nice, granted, I never saw them before the refurb but we really liked it there!

We knew we wouldn't have lots of energy after the early morning and with 14 full days ahead of us, a relaxing start was just what we needed!

did you like the steak OK? I had never heard anyone else not like the spices of the skillet so I was a little surprised. Still glad we tried it though!!

great start!!!:cool1:

It really was a perfect beginning even with the room frustrations!

I'm a little surprised to find myself feeling the Disney blues today :guilty: After my trip last year, I really felt satisfied for several months but I'm really wishing to be there again. Actually, maybe it's just a bit of wanderlust because I would happily take off to just about anywhere right now.

I think I'll have some Main Street fudge to see if that helps :rolleyes1

I love POP. Beach club is another fav. Oh who am I kidding, anywhere on propertywould be great right now.

The steak was great. DS usually doesn't like anything with spices except salt and paper. At 17 he finally trying and liking zesty fries. :rotfl:

My last trip was last Oct and I too was satisfied for a bit. I had bouts of blues but overall was fine. Just going back over my trips and what a great time I had was enough to boost my spirits.
Main Street fudge works too. :goodvibes

I had the Disney blues SO BAD after our trip last October, it was the strangest thing because I didn't even want to go on the disboards because I knew it would bum me out, so I took a few months off from the boards and got back after Christmas. I had 'overplanned' a bit too much for this trip, and I think I was let down (don't get me wrong, we had a GREAT time), but it taught me a lesson to CHILL OUT with the planning and expectations!!!

Anyway, we all understand your mood, here is some pixie dust...pixiedust:

I've actually thrown myself into your TR that I got WAY behind on to combat my blues so thanks :goodvibes I was just reading about your visit to Typhoon Lagoon and was wondering if you saw how they generate the big waves. Greg and I were having a discussion about the different possibilities and wondering which one they use.

I've stepped away from disboards in an attempt to fight the Disney blues but I think I'll stick around and work on my TR instead...probably tomorrow though!

HAPPY 4TH EVERYONE!!!!

:rotfl: LL, you are too funny! I was pretty stuffed by the time dessert came around and I know I didn't eat it all but not because it wasn't good (in fact, I'm pretty sure before I gave up that I ate the top portion of it )

My disappointment in this meal is purely personal taste. The meats were just too spiced for my family's palate. The boys and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and all the sides were good. I really do think I would give it another try but go for something other than the skillet.

Yes, this trip was very different from the 2008 one with the boys being older! I'm so glad we got to do both trips and I'm sure our next one will be entirely different again
I'm very serious about my cheesecake intake, especially since I barely eat anymore with trying to lose weight. I like to think that I'm a cheesecake authority. The cheesecake at WCC and Narcossees are high on my list to try.

The thing with Marc and I is that I would love to try the platter but I know there is NO way we will eat all that food. I'm thinking appetizers and desserts here maybe for lunch. :confused3

well, I have had the good fortune of having both cheesecakes and although the one at WCC wasn't bad, it was not anywhere near the delicousness of Narcoossees! I do not consider myself a connoisseur of cheesecake but the almond crusted yumminess is worth dreaming about :cloud9: Granted, they are 2 different tastes but if I could only have 1, there is no doubt which I would pick

*******************************

I have had the worst luck with my latest update! I edited pictures last night and when finished, I went to save and the program froze up and I had to redo them. Today I went to upload to photobucket and had a little hiccup so I closed the internet and when I tried to log back on, it wouldn't let me in (oh yeah, I had to change my e-mail on the account because then one I had been using has been deactivated. Apparently I typed my new address wrong and now I can't get on! :sad2:)

so my stress level was a bit elevated after putting the boys to bed last night so I decided a little Disney therapy was needed...wine in my new Disney wine glass, disradio and a hot bath with a Basin bath bomb...AHHHH!!!! I highly recommend!

in other interesting news, Greg and I were having a conversation earlier this week about our family vacations. He commented that he enjoyed our Disney trip more than he thought he would :woohoo: but he thinks we need to make sure we take the boys other places too. In my more sane moments, I agree with him. I would love to bring them to Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. Patick is a huge history buff and I know he would love to travel to Williamsburg and some of the civil war sites as well as visit DC. So it sounds like it will likely be a few years before we return to Disney.

Now I know this sounds like bad news but it's what followed this conversation that makes me :cool1: He said once the boys are out of the house, he doesn't care if I want go to Disney every year. You can bet I won't forget that!!

Hopefully I will get this picture issue figured out and get my next update up soon!!

I completely understand the Disney blues. They have hit me really hard too. Now I want to go another trip sooner rather than later. We always do summer do I thought it might be nice to see some other tie of the year especially a time when Disney isn't so crowded. We will see how that goes. I want to do the same thing when the kids get older. I want to travel to different places, but right now with the age of our kids we agree Disney just can't be beat for keeping our whole family entertained. We live in the DC area and there are tons of things to see. If your husband is a history buff, he will find tons in. And around the DC area.

I would really love to be planning our next Disney trip already but it's just not meant to be right now. Hopefully in a few months, we can start talking about next summer and where we want to go and maybe planning any trip will scratch the itch!

So I don't know what I was thinking this afternoon! I got thinking about photobucket and realized I should just make a new account DUH!! So one update coming right up and 2 more tomorrow!!

Day 2 – Wednesday, June 8

From here on, I will plan every vacation possible to start with a day 1 like this trip – hanging out, relaxing, dinner and early bed. This I think helped make a great first full day at Disney!! I awoke bright and early (OK, in all honesty, it was so early, it wasn’t actually bright yet!) Of course the rest of the family was still asleep but I was geared up and decided to get out and explore POP century a bit.

The view from the corner of our wing.

I think I forgot to mention that we got our EXACT room request! I had asked for 50’s or 60’s, lake view, top floor. Other than being way down on the end of the wing, I was thrilled, and in all honesty, the wings aren’t so long it mattered that much. The boys were hoping for a pool view room but I secretly requested that lake view and everyone agreed by the end of the trip that it was the better choice, nice and quiet!

Since we had been to the 50’s the day before, I decided to walk in the direction of the 70’s first.

Mr and Mrs looked lovely in the morning light

I swung quickly by the 80’s

The pop jets were down our entire stay…sad!

I turned back toward the main hall

Took a quick glance at the 50’s

And back around to the hippy dippy pool

This was our building and we walked past Mowgli and Baloo a lot! We didn’t know at the time that there were lots of changes in store for this view in the next week.

A quick visit to the bridge

where workers were busy keeping it looking spiffy!

And a look across the lake. It was interesting to see the various stages of progress on the different buildings. Some were just empty shells, others had outside walls while others appeared nearly finished with windows and all

I meant to get back here and have my picture taken with this sign since it’s the year I was born but this was the only time I got to it

Looking up toward our room. You can see our window just behind the blue flower

Soon, it was time to wake up the family and get going for our first magical day!

Hmmmm....Narcoossees sounds so delicious. I don't know if I will go in January though, it's so expensive and I'd hate to use two dining credits for one meal. I dunno. That cheesecake calls to me. :rotfl2:

What a lovely morning walk. I like looking at the new construction over the bridge, it's neat.

Somehow I got "unsubscribed", but I'm back now. Glad you had a safe flight. The boys look like they are having a blast at the pool. Sorry WCC did not live up to your expectations (as you know, we didn't care for it at all and won't be going back). I like your pics that you took the morning as everyone else was sleeping. I do this at the CSR every trip; while Mark showers, I walk around the resort and take pictures when it is as quiet as a mouse.

I have to agree with you Katie, I had the pleasure of that very fine cheesecake at Narcoossee's and it was absolutely sinful in an amazingly good way!!! SO YUMMY!!!!!

Great morning walk pictures!! POP is so colorful and full of life!! Of course I loved the Magnolia trees!

I always mean to do those early morning walks but I never make it....I'll have to face the facts and accept that it will never happen! I'm simply not a morning person! Thanks for taking me along on your walk! :) It looks so peaceful!

Greg and I were having a discussion about the different possibilities and wondering which one they use.

I am trying to remember if I actually went on that pat of the tour that year. I think that there is either a paddle to make waves or a huge tank and pump system that makes the waves. I think since it is such a big wave and they can regulate it, it must be the tank and pump. The tank fills under the "mountain" and when it fills to the desired level the pump pushed the water out to create the wave.

That may be what I heard on the tour or I just made it up.:lmao:

I hope I am able to combat your blues with my TR. :goodvibes

Wonderful Pop pictures - I love early morning when things are quiet and the sun is coming up! :thumbsup2
