[For now I'm copying what I posted in another thread, but I'll paste more when I've had more time to process]

OH NO:

My mom just got a call from Amtrak, and they have canceled our train on Sunday! I'm on hold with them to try to find out more information, but looks like now we have to scramble last minute to figure out what we're going to do!

My mom doesn't fly, so that's not an option. We did NOT want to have to do the long drive.

Nothing like scrambling 3 days before leaving to figure out what we're going to do...


(On a side note...this has been a bad luck year for things like this for me...we took a cruise in December, and found out when we got to the cruise terminal that our cruise was delayed a day).

Fingers crossed that we can figure this out!

I am sorry that I have been MIA for so long!!! I am so sorry that your train was cancelled, fingers and toes crossed that they run another one!! We will be in the MK for sure on the 29th, DD has BBB in the morning and we have the Dessert Party that night! As for the other days we are just winging it...lol! We will have our LGMH's, and I will keep an eye out for you guys!!

Thanks to you both. My dad took the afternoon off to go home and discuss the situation with my mom. I'm trying to be patient, giving them time to discuss...

Unfortunately, the train is canceled for good. Amtrak has canceled all trains traveling south of DC between Friday and Sunday. So Amtrak is simply no longer an option.

I'm not too worried about traveling on Sunday in terms of weather, it should be mostly north of us by that point; but the fact that my parents have a 8.5 hr drive from NY to VA, and then its about 15 hr or so the next day from here to FL...that's a daunting prospect, especially for my parents (who keep reminding me that they're not as young as we are!)

We'll see what happens! I'm hopeful we'll figure something out, it just may not be as comfortable or ideal as what we originally had planned.

We will be in the MK for sure on the 29th, DD has BBB in the morning and we have the Dessert Party that night! As for the other days we are just winging it...lol! We will have our LGMH's, and I will keep an eye out for you guys!!

Okay, I owe everyone an update:

About 3:15 this afternoon, my parents left NY and are on their way here. They are playing it by ear, and may drive straight down, getting in sometime between 11 and midnight, or they may stop somewhere for the night and finish driving here early tomorrow morning.

We'll all spend the day here tomorrow, staying inside, out of the rain/storms. I'm not sure what to expect from the hurricane weather here. We're about 30-40 miles from the coast, so I'm anticipating just rain and wind. Everything I've read so far seems to indicate that the worst of it will be tomorrow late evening.

Our plans for getting to Florida are still basically going to be playing it by ear. We're going to drive, there really isn't another option other than that. We'll leave sometime Sunday. If the storm has passed during the night, we'll try to leave as early as possible. If there is still some bad weather in our area, we may leave a little later.

Then, we're going to drive as far as we can make it on Sunday, trying to do at least 10 hours of driving that day. When we need to, we'll stop somewhere for the night. Get some rest, get up early, and hopefully have about 5 hours left to do on Monday morning. If we leave early enough, there's still a chance we could make it to the resort by noon!! Our previous arrival time would have been around 11am, so that would be amazing if we can still make it pretty close to that.

So that's where we are for now! I'll keep you posted!

Quick update:

My parents arrived last night just after midnight. We've spent the day here, relaxing and planning for our trip. So far, all we've got is some rain - very light, nothing major at all.
We may get some heavier rain and wind during the night, but as of now that's still all we expect.

We hope to leave tomorrow around 8am, and get as far as we can get. Probably to some point in Georgia. Then, we'll leave there as early as we can, and still hope to get to FL by around noon.

We're finishing up our planning now...running short on time, so I'm off to go finish that.

Just a little over a day, and this will all be over and we'll be at Disney!
