I want to buy a fan for my bedroom, but I don't have any ceiling fixtures to attach it to. Can someone tell me how I can hook it up? Will there be a cord that comes with it to maybe swag over to the wall outlet?

The best way is to put a sturdy electrical box in the ceiling. If you have an attic above the bedroom, that will make it easier. I suppose that you could run a wire along the wall and ceiling, but that may be in violation of a building code. The fan needs to be attached securely (to a joist or beam), so getting a pro to do it correctly is recommended if you don't have the DIY experience.

Get an electrician! You don't want to mess around with a poorly secured ceiling fan.

ceiling fans don't have regular plugs - so no wall plug will work.

I have seen, at some home building centers, a "swag kit" for ceiling fans.

Thanks for the responses. My ex-hubby, who lives in Florida, has an outdoor fan on his patio that is swagged over to an outlet on the side of the house. I thought I could do that.

Yes, you can do this yourself, if you're pretty handy, that is. Here are some links for info on mounting a ceiling fan and also a link to the swag kit you mentioned wanting to use. Personally, I would direct wire it, rather than have that cord along the wall.
