Here is my dumb question for the day...
I am VERY cheap when it comes to air conditioning. Should my ceiling fans be going clock-wise or counter clock-wise to keep my house cooler???

there was an article about that in the paper the other night. I have no idea what it said though. Sorry! I got rid of my last ceiling fan with my last house. :cheer2:

In the summer make sure they're going counter-clockwise. :sunny:

I had to laugh...this thread is right below the one that says Chris Daughtry fans...so this one sounds like it's for people who are fans of ceilings! :rotfl:

So DOWN to me means clockwise???

Yes, I assume that when a fan turns clockwise, that is the forward direction and moves the air down. You should be able to tell the direction of the air by putting the fan on high and standing directly underneath. If it's blowing down, your hair will look like  .

"Which direction should my fan go for the Winter or Summer months?
Clockwise in winter and counterclockwise in summer."

I found this on a ceiling fan manufacturer's site. :)

Look at the direction in which the fan blades are tilted. One side of each blade will be closer to the ceiling - this should be the leading edge, so as it rotates it will push the air down. Sorry but I am too lazy to go upstairs and actually LOOK at a fan. Hope this helps you!

I confirmed that CCW moves the air down.

lyzziesmom's observation is also correct.

Too funny! DH and I were having this "discussion" ( read argument ) last week. I finally called Home Depot and they agreed with me! ;)

Counter clockwise in the summer. That is when youre looking up at it according to the home depot guy, but dont look up at it too long, it can make you a little queasy :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Thats what he said!

I'm going to have to go home and check mine out. Although I'm not sure I want to turn the living room fan on right now. We had about a 4 foot square section of the living room ceiling crash in last Wednesday around midnight. And while our landlord came over to clean up the mess and assess the damage, we've still got a nice chunk of ceiling missing and lots of insulation defying gravity to stay up there. If I turn the ceiling fan on, I fear I may dislodge more of it.
