Okay, guys, I need your help. We are headed out to Cedar Point in mid-August. Has anyone stayed at any hotels out that way worth mentioning?

Criteria.....I need a pool. I probably won't go to the parks....I'm a coaster weenie (except Disney) so I'll spend the day lounging at the pool.

Other criteria.....not an arm and a leg, please!

Any suggestions?

We only live about 2 hours from CP so we have only ever spent the night one time. We stayed at the Breakers Express http://resorts.cedarpoint.com/public/resorts/index.cfm?resort_id=1

It is less expensive than the Breakers that is walking distance from CP but we thought the pool was nice and it was convenient since it is just at the end of the causeway.

Haven't been to CP last year or this year but my kids both have. Have a great time!!!

I'd like the answer to this question too! We're considering staying at The Hotel Breakers because it appears to be much closer than anything else. I'd like to hear from someone who's been there before!

I've stayed at:
Dusk to Dawn nice fairly cheap close to CP room.
few others within mile of CP all have been nice and close to Mcd's, Meijers (grocery store) chain restrurants etc.
Greentree inn seems since last I was in it (not sure it's still there)

I personally didn't care for ramada but that was few yrs ago.

try www.sanduskyhotels.com for some ideas not owned by Cp but close in most cases.

I have only stayed at Breakers.

Wherever you stay I highly recommend staying on a beach on Lake Erie. It is very enjoyable.:sunny:

We stayed at Breakers Express with the deal the offered on the web site with CP Twilight tickets (after 4 p.m.), and full-day tickets and parking. We also got breakfast vouchers for a continental breakfast, and coupons for a discount on the water park (but it wasn't open yet in mid-May). It was a great deal IMHO. The hotel was nice, and the pool was fine, nothing great, but still a pool :) I would certainly stay there again. Good value for the money.

Chanda, that's the deal we decided to go with. Someone pointed us to the website and with a little looking, we found it.

Whatever you do, do Not stay at the Quality Inn that is right by it.

I and my ex stayed there and it just wasn't that pleasant.

The room was dirty with cobwebs in the corners, the pool wasn't that great, the bed and the pillows were hard and the non-smoking room smelled like smoke.

I've also stayed at the Breakers. A little more pricey, but very nice. :)

gina2000, glad you got the deal! I don't know how many are in your party, but if I remember right, you get 8 breakfast vouchers. They have those yummy wrapped muffins, which you can have later as a snack or whathaveyou. It was only two of us on an anniversary trip before DD#2 was born, so we had lots for later :)

We stayed at the Breakers! We were VERY disappointed! I didn't think the hotel was nice at all! We stayed in a tower "Snoopy Room" and our window faced an alley and garbage cans. I thought the room was very generic!...the only thing that made it a snoopy room, was the clock, a picture and a small Joe cool Snoopy sitting on the bed! The only plus was the location! You can't beat it!

I think that the Breakers Express package deals are the best deal going for Cedar Point :thumbsup2

I'm glad you were able to get in on one! Have a gret trip! Definitely use the early entry for hotel guests and get an early ride on Top Thrill Dragster or Millenium Force :thumbsup2

If you are lucky, like us, you'll get to ride the Top Thrill Dragster to the top, back to the launch, and up again ;) But you aren't going to the park...

I'm only about 50 miles from Cedar Point and go there OFTEN :)!!! The Breakers hotels are ok but if you're going to hang out at the pool, you may want to go for a waterpark? Castaway Bay, Kalahari, or Great Wolf Lodge? They usually have great specials, we stayed at Kalahari last weekend for $99! :woohoo: just in case you hadn't considered it.

The Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point is OLD. Breakers Express, which is at the end of the Cedar Point Causeway, is much newer. We stayed at the Breakers Express in 2002 with a package, but opted for the newer, slightly less expensive, and farther away Comfort Suites a month ago.

I worked at Cedar Point for 3 summers in the mid-70's. The dorm I stayed in was part of the old Breaker's Hotel. That particular section was torn down when the hotel expanded, but there are still a few employee dorms left on the peninsula. I enjoy going back every now and then to reminisce. But the BEST time was when a bunch of us were there in August 2003 for "Riddle-Con"!
