CDN $ doing good today

Has anyone charged anything on their credit card lately in US funds?? I just paid for my SW planeflights and the rate was around 1.25 - a bit high if you ask me - and this was just last week. Oh well, it's better than it was a year ago!! :earsgirl:

Which card and which bank do you use? I guess I have to ask my CC companies for their rate.

I put $100 US on my Amex card on October 20th and I got charged 127.82 the rate that day was 1.21.. That is a high rate.. I think I will stick to my Paypal USD card!

I've just checked my Amex and they said about the exchange rate is "daily exchange rate plus 2.2%, and today's rate is 1.19"

If what she's saying is true, then their charge is no worse than RBC or TD.

My visa also charges 2.25% of purchase as well-last charge in US was at 1.28 (bank rate was 1.23). Funny, there was also a US $ credit on the same bill and they credited at 1.19.

I took the plunge last night and paid the balance of my Disney package on my VISA card. It is a GM points card and I am in the market for a new car so also accumulated points towards it.

Our car rental charge came through today at 1.21, so not a bad rate at all.

Saved 15.00 over the quoted exchange from national on our rental agreement.

$ sure looks good. Too bad I paid the balance on our upcoming cruise about a month ago when it was 1.34. That looked really good then - not so now! Oh well, we are still cruising in less than 80 days!

Now it would be nice if I could pay for my hotel before the cruise and get these good rates!

Oops-I've been pre-occupied this morning.

Are you guys with US accounts able to transfer funds on-line. I opened one last week and found out today that I cannot transfer on-line and when I do transfer it is the same rate as purchasing:mad:

Nope...can't transfer here for RBC or Scotia. I agree, though, it makes me cranky...:p

:sunny:

I have Bank of Montreal accounts, and while I can't trasnfer the $$ myself, all I do is fill out a request online and they do it for me. I'm not 100% sure about the rate - but I always thought the rate to tsf was a bit (probably tiny) better than the "cash" or purchase rate.

I like the BMO website - maybe you can check it out?

I can usually do it via a phone call (have phone banking attached to my client card). Most times I go in and see "the girls". RBC

XE.com today: 1.1937 (0.8377) !!!!! It's getting better!

We bank with RBC and we are able to transfer from our Canadian acct to our US acct online.:D

Thanks everyone. Scotia said they are hoping to be able to transfer on-line soon. There is nothing I hate more than going to the bank.
