CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Got my first shot (Moderna) today! April 12 the health dept. will be back at my school I teach at to administer the second!

So governor had her conference and she's decided to combine Phase 3 and 4 which comprised mostly of major (3) and minor (4) medical conditions as well as some other essential workers. That new combined phase will begin next week! It's about 600,000 people included in that. They expect to get a good portion of J&J (about 100K doses) which I assume is largely for why they can move on since that is a 1 dose right now. NOW while the state can move into this new combined phase the supply isn't really going to increase until 2 weeks from now which matches up with her early to mid-April timeframe so I'm not anticipating a snap I can get a vaccine next week type thing for my area.

I was in Phase 4, I do believe rural parts of the state will have much easier time as they have less population. We'll see how quickly the pharmacies and counties in my metro and hospital systems move from 65+ and high contact workers to who is included in Phase 3 and Phase 4.

The pull of vaccines to finish out counties in Phase 2 I believe was critical. There's no way my area would have been chugging along now with how many people we if we hadn't been able to gain the vaccine from counties already done with Phase 2.

It’s time to open Florida eligibility to everyone .

It is so frustrating. They’re not giving out extra shots at the end of the day either. Instead they’re just rolling it into the next day.

I have heard they are literally turning away 64 year olds, even when then there is NO ONE there. That is awful. I'm so glad my parents in FL already got their vaccines. They luckily had a mobile clinic set up at their retirement community.

They are just sitting here for several days in VA also. State still only allowing 65+ and essential employees. Time to open it up!

Meanwhile, here in CT where we are following an age based eligibility, they just moved everyone up. I am now eligible this Friday (45 and up). And everyone over 16 is eligible April 5 which was originally over 35 = April 12 and over 16 = May 3.

One of my good friends in CT just booked her appointments for late April. I am so jealous!

Here's the thing: no one is exploiting any loopholes, when you're eligible, get vaccinated ASAP. You're doing yourself a favor, but more importantly, you're doing society a favor.
People are exploiting loopholes, but I mainly fault the states for putting those loopholes in to be exploited. I'm a 40 year old diabetic, my wife's aunt is a 62 year old chemotherapy patient. Neither of us is eligible under WI guidelines right now. Although my Dr's 16 year old daughter is because she is a lifeguard at the Y, and my wife's 35 year old cousin is because he is the caretaker of his mother. Whom is statistically more likely to suffer complications from COVID? I'm very glad I was able to go outside of the state run system to get my shot.
The counties/states also have some idea of how many people are in each group, and are opening groups based on that.
You are giving way too much credit to state and local health departments, and even if they did there is no way to guess what percentage of those eligible will not get the vaccine.

Look at it a different way. Complications are but one thing to look at.

Your age doesn't necessarily play a role but I would agree on the diabetic part for you (irrespective of age that medical condition can affect on the covid situation), your wife's aunt's age is sorta at the cut off but many chemo patients have immunocompromised immune systems such that vaccines typically are closely monitored AND those individuals will usually take precautions to reduce exposure because of their immune systems. That 16 year old daughter her age shouldn't be the reason you look at it but look at the fact that she's a lifeguard who has to by the very nature of her job being in close proximity to people. Have you ever watched Live Rescue? Recently this season Honolulu joined up. Their lifeguards don't wear masks because they are in and out of the water (or have to be at a moment's notice) and they know they take on a risk being close to people. Their job means social distancing has to be able to be abandoned at a moment's notice. Your wife's 35 year old cousin their age doesn't matter much but they take care of a person. Who would take care of that person's mother if they were to get sick? Their mother relies on them.

So ya know the thing we all need to keep in mind is there isn't one way to see this thru. Vaccine envy is a real thing and while I know there are some gray areas that seem to be head scratchers (and honestly don't disagree with some of that) I've thought it very interesting the mental gymnastics people try to rationalize for why so and so shouldn't be eligible for a vaccine over someone else.

Wow. That’s a giant flashing sign that it’s time to open it up...such a wasted opportunity

Last week I was sent two appointments for those 60 and over and turned away at both. Today it is now 60 and over. I’m sure they are using extra time to turn away the 55+.

Only 60% of our 65 and olders are vaccinated. But at this point it must be because they don’t want it. We have a group in our area offering to sign up anyone in that age group. We have no one left on the list to sign up.

Just so I don’t always come across as a downer on this thread, I just got an email from our county dept of Ed that all of our teachers & school staff who want to get vaccinated will be by March 25th, so they are shutting down the vaccine clinic I volunteer at after that date!

Well now that's a good reason to have to shut down a vaccine clinic!

Not a super spectacular day for numbers. Hospitalizations are still ticking down which is one of the most meaningful numbers.
