CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Substitute the word “countries” with “states” or “counties” and it’ll describe the situation in the US.

But we have some level of cooperative coordination. Some might not like the specifics of it, particularly IRT equity efforts or which professions are singled out for earlier access, but we don't have states fighting over allocation or bidding against one another for vaccine contracts. It seems like the EU is suffering from too many cooks in the kitchen, with EU regulators saying one thing and country health authorities saying another and with the EU handling some of the contracts/distribution but countries also trying to run their own contracts and programs as well.

We've also had better luck, for lack of a better word, with the vaccines that we've approved so far - A-Z/Oxford seemed like the leading European jab for a while there and seemed to be the one everyone wanted, but they've also been the one that has had the most problems that caused delays and suspensions of the vaccination program. Maybe that's the difference in EU vs. US regulatory standards at play, but it seems like A-Z has had more associated adverse events and temporary pauses in administration than Pfizer or Moderna.

I don’t see a vax passport being used much domestically, imho, but the key use would be to open international travel. You can pretty much do anything domestically now without it and it’s hard to see them put more restrictions on industries hit so hard. The exception would be heavily regulated states like NY/CA. I wouldn’t expect TX, FL, etc to allow passports to be required for travel, concerts etc.

New York area sports teams have already started using one, via a mobile app called Excelsior.

I don't see a domestic "Vax Passport" either. I think we'll continue to see larger companies lead the way with respect to restrictions, like Disney. The reality is the same for those of us who aren't vaccinated. Well, at least a lot of us.....and that is that I won't jump back into the pond until I get that shot. I don't need anyone to put restrictions on me or remove them....I'll do that myself thanks. And I'm trying to be super vigilant now because it's easy to get lazy about it after all of these months. In my area the three local high schools have all gone totally virtual in the last few days due to rising cases.

Hawaii is considering it.

All adults in Michigan will be eligible to get vaccinated by April.

Dang, Jon, you're really on the ball with the updates. I got the email notification about your post on this thread 7 minutes before I got the app notification with the "breaking news" headline from the Detroit paper.

I'm starting to lean that way too, because the numbers in my state are going in the very wrong direction - case numbers from the last 2 days have been twice what we were seeing a week ago, and in my county we went from weeks of daily cases in the low teens to 40-some yesterday and today, including an outbreak at the local public high school. It is still a small number in absolute terms, but a pretty big increase in a short time and particularly concerning because the counties that account for the big upticks are at/near the bottom in terms of vaccination rates. I've been pretty moderate in terms of what we are and aren't doing, but at this point some of the things I was looking forward to reopening have finally done so and I'm not doing them anyway because it seems like bad timing to let our guard down. I can wait a few more weeks for dining in, when the patios start opening and it doesn't have to be indoors (or when I'm vaccinated), and there's nothing worth going to the theatre for showing right now anyway.

I could definitely see it being used in more restrictive states to foster some sort of compromise between state authorities that want everything to remain closed and organizations like sports teams or concert venues that are counting on some sort of return to business this summer, if only because in NY, CA, MI and a handful of other places, it may be a vaccine requirement or nothing... Our current restrictions only allow up to 1000 fans at outdoor venues, which isn't nearly enough to justify the cost of operating stadium services, so if the sports teams could go to the governor with a proposal for increased capacity contingent on only allowing the vaccinated to attend, I'm sure they'd jump at the opportunity.

It's going to become more difficult for the negative nellies to continue the doom and gloom narratives as the news gets better and better. What's the purpose in discouraging folks to be optimistic for our future?

Colorado Governor just had press conference and announced all Colorado adults will be eligible for vaccine by mid-April. He also says that all adults who want the vaccine should have their first dose by mid-May - beginning of June. He said that the Federal Government gives them predictions on how much vaccine will be distributed in the next three weeks and some insight on what will be available past that. That is why they can make these predications. As I have been saying, the vaccine distribution is about to have a huge burst in supply. Those who want it will have it by May.

Man, another disappointing update from our Mayor regarding OC vaccines.

We are getting NO J&J vaccine next week. We are getting only 44,000 doses again next week, total.

Our county scheduling system has 300,000 people registered and eligible and in the "waiting room" to make an appointment. More people register every day as new groups become eligible. At this rate, it would take almost 7 weeks just to get through the people currently waiting. ☹

Where is that ramp up of supply everyone keeps talking about?

Starting Monday, they will allow people with high risk conditions to get vaccinated. My 16 year old son fits the criteria as he has a developmental disability. Thankfully they will not be requiring documentation, which is one less hoop to jump through, and will instead use the honor system and make people sign an affidavit. I am going to stalk the Federal Pharmacy program site and try to get my son an appointment that way, while simultaneously registering him in the county portal. Whatever comes up first, I guess.

I go to the clinical trial screening appointment Monday morning. After reading through the 35 page consent form, I have a LOT of questions and am not 100% sure I will participate. However, I will have the chance to ask all my questions and just find out if I actually qualify, and they will pay me $225 for the visit, so even if it's not for me, I will get paid for my time.

Several venues in Las Vegas are considering using the Clear health passport app. It's being discussed for shows and sports events as well as conventions.

Oh that stinks! I just heard of the first J&J vaccine....my neighbor, who just got it today. But I don't know what our supply is here in NJ. Like you though, NJ is opening up to anyone 16-64 with several more pre-existing conditions....including "overweight" and not just "obese".....so this will add a lot of people to the queue.

I really hope you get an appointment for your son!
