Honestly don't you think that we have had these variants all along, heck probably even others that are far worse than the ones they identified in SA, BG etc. I mean, we were not looking for them, and as far as spread goes the US has kind of been the Wild West. I am thinking that the US strain of COVID looked at the other international variants and said "hold my beer". In any case, we are really ramping up shots in arms quickly which is going to make a huge difference. In NC I know that we have around 10 million people in the state, have given almost 3 million shots, and have about 800,000 known COVID cases with likely some sort of lingering natural immunity. Things are looking up here.
