CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

It’s starting to get comical. We did 5.3 million vaccines this weekend. At that rate we’ll do 111million in 6 weeks -1/3 of Americans. Even if that was all only the first shot of the ones requiring 2 shots (and it won’t be) adding that to the ones who’ve already been vaccinated, I can’t help but wonder who is going to be involved in this great surge.
Nevermind that’s it’s been the SAME timeframe since the end of January. And we’re now 6 weeks from the first time I heard that claim.

It really is! Its so ridiculous and time for the media to move on and actually let good news come out.

Oh I know, its ridicoulous. But the crazy part is how many will believe it.

For my "real" job all day, all I do is talk to people. It's stunning how much disinformation is still out there. One client- a wealthy, intelligent person- told me he heard the risk of death from the vaccine is nearly as high as the risk of death from covid. What??? I didn't even know how to respond to that.

What? That is crazy. Yeah I wouldn't know either. There really is so many with so much wrong information.

It does seem crazy that we would experience another surge but the IHME has NY experiencing another big surge in Mid May as one of its scenarios but the other 2 had the numbers steadily decreasing. I have followed Israel's numbers with interest. While their numbers seem to be trending down they are still higher than I would think they should be based on their aggressive vaccination campaign. I wonder what the reason is.

For Israel (and here, for that matter) keep an eye on deaths and hospitalizations more so than total cases.

News today.....experts say the US is on the verge of another that could come in the next 6 to 14 weeks....I can't help but laugh. Vaccines are increasing daily and more and more natural infection also. It like they don't want admit they have been wrong.
Again? Didn't they say something similar 6-14 weeks ago?

There is just no math on the planet that supports that concern. Literally the only fear would be a brand new variant that the vaccines and prior immunity are entirely unresponsive to.

This thread is the one thing that keeps me from panicking when I see these predictions.

I'm really glad to hear that. But seriously- if someone can tell me how I'm possibly wrong, I am all ears.
When I read them (which honestly I shouldn’t be doing because my anxiety is bad enough) I find myself wondering how what they’re saying is possible. I’m not a scientist but…math. Are we missing something? If we are it would be nice if they’d tell us what. As far as a super variant resistant to the vaccines isn’t that supposed to be the magic of the mRNA technology? It’s easily tweaked for that isn’t it?

Just saw on CNN the CDC will release guidelines for those who are fully vaccinated at 11 AM today.
Very good news. The difficulty with the rollout is that there are so many place to get the vaccine and each has their own rules and procedures. Florida is offering vaccines to k-12 educators over 50 at most places, and to those under 50 at only some places. Meanwhile the Walmarts that are doing vaccines are offering them to any and all educational staff for all ages, professors and staff.

It's hard to people to navigate.

It is. But we'd still have to first discover a variant that even meets that criteria in the first place.

This is me too. But I admit, I read A LOT daily, so I go back and forth. I try to read this thread the most though. Even so, seeing screaming headlines about variants/surges/ect... is disconcerting. Oh the life of a person with anxiety even pre covid!

I noticed that!!! The variant talk- and the “plateau” talk has gotten very quiet.
Honestly don't you think that we have had these variants all along, heck probably even others that are far worse than the ones they identified in SA, BG etc. I mean, we were not looking for them, and as far as spread goes the US has kind of been the Wild West. I am thinking that the US strain of COVID looked at the other international variants and said "hold my beer". In any case, we are really ramping up shots in arms quickly which is going to make a huge difference. In NC I know that we have around 10 million people in the state, have given almost 3 million shots, and have about 800,000 known COVID cases with likely some sort of lingering natural immunity. Things are looking up here. :).

What I remind myself of often is so far the predictions in this thread have been right most of the time. I think that’s because no one here has anything to gain by being “sensational” about it.

Absolutely yes. You're totally right. It could be years- many years- before we know everything that REALLY happened with Covid. I mean, there's no doubt that if it was in China in November, it was here in December at the latest- and we didn't "officially" mark the first case until February.

Was the one in Seattle in January not official? I remember it distinctly because it was the same week my DD moved to Seattle. And I’m pretty convinced it was around before December. I have nothing to back that up but my gut but I would not be surprised at all to find out it was around earlier.

There is no doubt at all at this point that that was Covid- but at the time, they just thought it was a surge in the flu.
