CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Life isn't "fair"...never has been. Someone will always feel slighted. I do not believe the vaccination should be the sole determining factor for easing restrictions and opening up businesses. It's just another tool to help control severe infections and/or transmissions. You seem to be hung up on masks wearing. They are just one tool that can potentially help in situations where one is unable to distance. Not all masks are created equally. IMO I believe some are inefficient, often worn incorrectly and can give a false sense of security. But I wear one when required. It's my choice to be in situations that masking is a necessity and I am a rule follower.
Okay I have a feeling you're being contrary for no reason point being made by saying life isn't fair...when people resort to that it's like what's the point in having an open dialogue.

It's becoming clear you dislike the public health guidance to the point of I just don't know even how to describe it and that's your cause you're championing (i.e. masks need to go away now). I'm not even talking about opening up businesses, again the original conversation was about easing restrictions only for those vaccinated leaving unvaccinated out. The conversation with you really seems to stem from this intense dislike rather than the original discussion regarding access to vaccines. In that respects it's a move on for me :)

And all three industries that I mentioned are intertwined. It has been devastating.

Oh, no doubt. People only "feel" the devastation if they are seeing it in their life or work in an industry where lots of their friends/family are feeling it. Where I live there are lots and lots of white collar professional types, and they're all chugging on...working from home. They have been from the jump. My husband is one of those people...thankfully. However, his wife (moi).....is still at about 50% of where I was before all of this started. Until people start traveling again and commuting.....my business won't return.

It may be hard to believe it if you've kept your job in this mess and have seen no income loss, but there are nearly 18 million people....right now, collecting unemployment in this country. At the height of the Great Recession there were 15 million people unemployed. There are just some industries/jobs that will not come back at all, or in any fashion resembling 2019 until we get back to some sense of "normal".

Of the 18 million unemployed, 11 million are gig workers/self-employed/ICs...who are receiving benefits. That's never happened before. I believe the new Administration is looking to extend those benefits until September. None of this means that there aren't people out there who can no longer collect as traditional employees, or that if they do receive benefits....that it's remotely enough. But I try and imagine if the government wasn't pumping literally trillions of dollars into the system to help right now.....we'd be in serious trouble.

Personally I believe we should open up what we can....save jobs and move back to normal (as possible.) Otherwise it will take much longer to recover. Can't see us all lining up at the starting gate waiting for the bell.

And OMG these poor kids especially those already at a disadvantage. Talk about unfair.
In the U.S. businesses are mainly open and have been for a long time so we're not really in the same situation as Germany.

Restaurants are largely open, schools are too though with different models going on, many places you can go out and about, some shows are coming back. I think Disney on Ice even is starting to tour again (that's a big surprise for me). I read about that from Facebook in one of the Disney groups I follow.

People are still able to fly in the U.S. and have never been prohibited from doing so. There's only been a few places in the U.S. that have had such strict restrictions in many months. You might see more occupancy requirements for restaurants yes I could see that but even that is largely going away. I don't think the issue is restrictions in the U.S. at all so I'm confused. I remember how many business owners pleaded to be allowed to be open. They said they had no issues with requiring masks, no issues with with blocking off tables though they needed it to be reasonable in occupancy limit. And many places heard this plea, the business owners just wanted to be open. Various sporting events have allowed fans just with reduced occupancy and masks. Many places are operating under as close to normal as they can be and have been for many months. They just have mainly masks, social distancing, occupancy going on but that's a far cry from not opened up.

What are you personally hoping for when we are talking about people vaccinated vs people not vaccinated? What restrictions are you wanting to go away right now? Are you wanting restaurants only for those vaccinated and they just don't have to wear masks and social distance? Are you wanting stadiums to just be for vaccinated people without masks and no social distancing? Is your sticking point masks?

International travel is going to be a bit with only a few countries able to successfully allow different qualifications for vaccinated persons. I really feel for international travel, it requires many countries to work together on the same plan and that's going to be difficult :(

I don't know many people that have been vaccinated against covid-19.
If you know folks who are vaccinated and seem cautious to you, is their lifestyle truly a problem?
I live with someone with disabilities. I'm sure there are a few neighbors around who see how we manage our lives and think...how strange....or whatever. And yet we know what works for us, so we carry on just fine. 😊

At this point, I know more people who have been vaccinated (8) than have had the virus (0). I find this sort of amusing in an ironic way, considering I live in the epicenter of the mass outbreak of last fall...and only 2 of those 8 are people over 65. The others were eligible through their work.

2 of these people are my husband and our friend that he lives with part time since he works 80 miles from home. I'm relieved they have been vaccinated because their biggest fear was infecting each other and passing it to our household where we have 2 kids with disabilities. Even though they have been vaxxed, we have ALL continued taking the same precautions as before until me and the kids are vaccinated. Luckily one is already 16 and the other is 15, so hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer.

And I think we're going to see more and more of this. Each state has their own phases and tiers and now that we've gotten the health care workers going, those in long term care facilities going you're going to see more diversification of who is getting it. We just need to speed it up more and more! Then we won't be having these discussions as much about the rights of those vaccinated and the rights of those not vaccinated. The line will blur a lot more, well I sure hope so!, in the next few months and we'll hopefully be really towards the light at the end of this very long tunnel. Fingers crossed!!

I agree. I am hopeful that myself and my oldest son wil be able to get vaccinated earlier than my state might otherwise allow. We have Tricare and they have their own agreement with DoD/DHS to give vaccines at military hospitals and clinics nationwide using CDC eligibility criteria, which is different from CA criteria. They have tiers 1A, B and C and then it will just open up to everyone else over 16 in Tier 2. They are already on 1C and should be through that population quickly. They are estimating that the general population tier will open up the first week of March. At that point, CA will just be starting Tier 1B.

So, many military dependents will get their vaccines this way, which is a separate allocation than what is sent out to the states. They seem to be moving very fast. This is how my husband got his vaccine. He is active duty and the clinic he goes to had doses and has been instructed to vaccinate anyone who wants it, even if they don't meet DoD eligibility criteria quite yet. My husband is technically Tier 1C and got his vaccine while they were still officially doing 1A.

The sad part about it is, the reason they had extra vaccine is because NONE of the Active Duty members want the vaccine. Seriously. It's a huge problem right now. They can't mandate it because it doesn't yet have full FDA approval. This is how they are blowing through the tiers so quickly. People in the military community largely don't want it. ☹ My husband works in a building with 40 people. 8 of them got the vaccine.

I just got back from getting my mom her second dose of Pfizer.

Has anyone read when the J&J vaccine is going to go before the FDA for approval? I haven’t been able to find anything other than “soon.”
"Johnson & Johnson is expected to apply for emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration late next week. If the review follows the path of two earlier vaccine candidates, the shot could be authorized and available to the public by March."

Wow, I didn't realize! That is a huge problem. If it's not too personal to ask what do you think the military personnel will do if it is mandated? Would they just take it because they are ordered to or do you think there will be issues even then?

Well, if it is mandated, they don't have a choice. The only exceptions would be medical contrindications, and there are very few of those in the military. Those people get vaccinated for EVERYTHING. The irony of them refusing this one is rich.

US following a similar trend to UK:

Jan 6: 265k
Jan 13: 239k
Jan 20: 191k
Jan 27: 161k
Feb 3: 114k

and just for the sake of those fearing what is acknowledged as the worst variant taken hold, let's look at South Africa, where it seems to be evaporating faster than anywhere in the world (without vaccination):

Jan 6: 21k
Jan 13: 18k
Jan 20: 12k
Jan 27: 7k
Feb 3: 4k

We really aren't communicating. This isn't a productive conversation so I will end it here. 🌼

Wasn't the AZ vaccine the one that the US did not approve? Was it due to neurological concerns? I wonder how it's doing in the places where it was approved. I have not heard of any problems.

Wow....that's crazy. I didn't realize this was such an issue. The military is going to have to make it mandatory once it gets official FDA approval.

Just got an ok on Monday to get vaccinated so I suppose enough info is now in to call it for high risk groups. I am so relieved and my family is thrilled, no word yet for when but I'm on a list with the Dr.
At first I was told to stand down & was worried I'd never get an ok. I feel so much happier now.... no words for the relief.
