But Disney isn’t requiring negative tests either. Disney isn’t going to move to these extremes (testing and vaccination requirements). And they’re not going to require it of their staff either. Unfortunately masks are here to stay for a year or more possibly at Disney. They’re not going to rush to change.

Can we agree that Disney's ultimate goal here is to get back to allowing full capacity?

While I'm all for whipping this stupid mask off, don't we have to keep masks on , etc., because we don't know if we will still be able to give Covid to others even though we are vaccinated?

which is why it's such a bummer so many people are choosing not to be vaccinated. Kind of ruining it for everyone.

Exactly. And, like others have said, once everyone has had an equal shot at a vaccine and we know 100% that vaccinated people can't transmit the disease, I will travel...etc. I'll wear a mask if required in stores, on planes...etc, but I'll move about in my community and the world as before. My only concerns would be going to a place where there might be an outbreak of unvaccinated people where I could get stranded. For example, on a cruise, or in a foreign country.

I'll use one that my husband and I are contemplating....South Africa, because we have a postponed trip that we're supposed to take in August. I've read that it may take SA longer to vaccinate their residents. They're caught in a kind of bad "in-between". They're not poor enough to receive millions of free doses, and they're not wealthy enough to be able to afford it....etc. It's going to take awhile. So, if DH and I venture there, vaccinated and ready to go....and an outbreak occurs, flights might be prohibited to land in Europe (where we'd need to connect)... or the US...etc. Because of the new strain circulating in SA....there are lots of Europeans who were vacationing there who are now stranded. I don't want to end up in a situation like that.

1. I get it....vaccine hesitant is probably yet another category to add the covid deniers and anti-vaxxers. I understand why people think that the vaccine was rushed. I was a bit concerned about that several months ago until I really started to educate myself and understand that's not the case at all. Because years of research had already gone into SARS1 so many years ago and because the SARS-Co-V2 spike protein that causes infection are almost identical to its predecessor.....scientists had the answer almost immediately. The only reason we didn't have a SARS1 vaccine was because cases disappeared and therefore funding dried up. But the "platform" for a new mRNA vaccine was there. The other reason it "feels" sped up is because we were able to complete human trials so quickly. Well, we happen to have a raging pandemic....so.....plenty of subjects to vaccinate and send out into the world to see how they do.

DH and I are 'vaccine hesitant', because DH is immunocompromised, and we want to wait until there is more data on what the vaccine will do with his situation. Will it interact with his medications? Will it cause him to get a severe case of something or injure him in some way? Once more data is in on what can/will go wrong (or right) in his situation, then we can look at getting one.

SOiL#2 is getting it, as he is military and it's going to be required. They are vaccinating the health care military at his base now. As soon as DD#2 is allowed, she will get it as well. DD#1 will most likely get it (as will SOiL#1) as soon as they can.

I don't know what all those letter mean, but to "DH", please bear in mind that at this point worldwide tens of millions have been vaccinated. There is NO OCCURRENCE of any of what you're concerned about.

To add, I worry about the impact of catching Covid to someone immunocompromised. DH has co-morbitities and we will follow his doctors’ advice.

Is there any hard data yet for people who have to take serious immunosuppressive drugs? I don't think people like that were involved in the trails...were they?

I have a friend who had a kidney transplant in early 2019. However, he has to take all kinds of immunosuppressive drugs so his body won't reject his new kidney. He finally got a new lease on life and really started to feel better in late 2019....and then Covid happened. He's my age, about 53-54. He's single and he's essentially become a shut-in. His elderly mother is going through chemo from breast cancer, so she has moved in with him and they've formed the strictest bubble of anyone I know....out of necessity. His specialist has told him that he should take the vaccine when it's his turn, as any risk for him with the vaccine will be far, far less than his outcome if he gets Covid. I asked him if his specialist had any preference for which vaccine he should get...and he said no.

I was about to say "consult with your doctor" but the rest of your post beat me to it. i'd argue the threat of Covid itself far outweighs any possible threat from the vaccine here.

I am starting to get discouraged. I heard on the news that at the rate we are going with vaccinations it will take years to get the pandemic under control. I thought we were shooting for at least some sense of normalcy by summer. I hope something changes and we get back on track.

That's what his doctor has said. I am hearing a lot of concern from younger women, and especially pregnant women. The vaccine experts are advising that cohort....to "consult with your doctor". And the Ob/Gyn docs are saying...."you guys know more than we do!" So I think that's a bit of an issue for right now anyway.

As to my friend, he was relieved that his doctor told him that the vaccine is worth the risk. I feel like my own life has gotten considerably smaller because we're not able to socialize as we did pre-Covid. We're not traveling at all. We're not able to enjoy concerts, indoor dining....etc. But for my friend...it's been really, really tough. He told me he'll take his chances with the vaccine because the life he's living now isn't really living.

I always tempered my expectations and hope. Don't get too focused on "the rate we are going" we literally just started vaccinating our whole country like 2 weeks ago (roughly thereabouts), other countries and regions are starting their process too. Realistically getting the entire globe vaccinated will be a challenge, that does not mean all hope should be thrown out. As far as normalcy by summer I honestly never felt that way. With the general population just being able to be vaccinated by then, and take into consideration complete protection is not given from the first or second dose it takes time for our bodies to get that, from initial plans I'm not sure how that could have been achieved. Of course sense of normalcy takes on different meanings to different people.

vaccinations will pick up dramatically in the coming weeks. I promise.

I still don't get the whole idea that the vaccine has to be held back in reserve for the second vaccinations. This is turning into a huge mess. Why not just deal with it later after as many people as possible get their first vaccination? I thought that the vaccine production is a high priority.

Agreed. Your way is how England is doing it.

If we get 100 million doses by the summer from Pfzier, we should have a little over 50 million vaccinated counting this year. You need two shots. If Moderna also gets 100 million doses by the summer, then that would be another 50 million. That's about 100 million out of 350 million people that live in the US. That won't be enough for herd immunity. This means we will be wearing masks throughout most of 2021. It's why I'm looking to get into astronomy now. I've been saying fall 2021 for a while now with summer being super optimistic. I haven't seen any new news that changes that projection.

But isn’t the UK also looking to have people wait up to 3 months between doses? The CEO of Pfizer just came out today and said that that won’t work with their vaccine. It needs to be administered at 4 weeks, not 3 months. So the UK could be in a pickle in a few months.

Don’t count Oxford-AstraZeneca and J&J out. They may be approved by February. We will see.

I think UK is going to approve AZ but the U.S. put it on hold. J&J is supposed to finish phase 3 by end of Jan. Hopefully they can be as good as moderna and Pfizer and can be rolled out in Feb. J&J is only one dose which is nice.

I guess AZ was approved today in UK. Found this:

AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for emergency supply in the UK, with the first doses being released today so that vaccinations may begin early in the New Year.

And now we have this story, out of Tampa ...
https://www.tampabay.com/news/healt...begin-swarming-coronavirus-vaccination-sites/

de Santis has declared that all senior citizens will go next now that the majority of frontline healthcare workers who want it have been vaccinated. My DS' GF is an elementary school teacher, and she's pretty livid that her colleagues who have underlying health issues will apparently have to wait until all of the healthy older folks are served first.
