Does anyone else have trouble with their credit card company not processing payments on time? I swear lately it seems like they are holding my payments until the day after they are due and then charging me a late fee for it. I normally mail my payments 10-15 days in advance and the payment center is like 3 towns away so how can it take so long? I really don't want to set up automatic payments and give them access to my bank account. Does anyone else have this problem?

Why not set up the payments electronically through your bank website? Then you can choose to have them paid the day before. That's how we pay all our bills, which is not the same as setting up an auto-draft through the credit card company.

I pay it online and I can see they get the funds instantly.

Our checking account offers free online bill pay. I sent up who I want payed and then I can either set it to pay them a set amount on a set date each month or I can do one time payments ( which is what I do because of the way our pay checks come in). The credit card company will not have your info and you you will have proof of when they received the funds.

I also pay online always - that way I have an electronic time stamp of when the payment is received.

My SIL has been using the came credit card for 20 years and still pays by check. Two weeks ago her DH went to use it and it was declined. The CC company cashed the check but never applied the payment!

You should be able to just make payments at the CC's website each month, you shouldn't have to set up a monthly auto-payment with them. If your CC doesn't have that feature, you could also do bill e-pay through your own bank to them. That's how I do it, I send the payment the day I get the bill through my banks bill e-pay system, and I've never had a problem with "late" payments.

Be careful if your credit card is through the same bank you have a checking/savings with. My parents had one like that and when they didn't make their payment on time, the credit card took it out of their checking account with NO notice. The bank said that they had a right to do that since both accounts were held by the same bank. I have also experienced what you are going through.

My advice, try to drop that card as fast as you can. As others have stated, paying online from your checking is fast, easy and instant.

I had this problem once with my wellsfargo cc this was before they offer online payment. Two weeks have gone by and the payment wasn't process I call them and they noted the account my payment date was 3 weeks before they apply to the balance. Of course they remove the fee and apologize for the problem. I have never made a late payment.

Call and raise heck. This is something that certain companies do as a way to steal money from customers through extra fees. I've heard Clark Howard mention it on his show. If your bank is at all modern it should have bill-pay available - your bank sends an electronic payment to your biller, the biller does not have access to your account.

And if they keep doing it, switch CC companies. Or call a lawyer. If you can prove the mail was delivered to them on time and they cashed the check but didn't post the payment they can get into big trouble for it.

If you don't want the cc company to know your bank account number then do online bill pay thru your bank. Most banks guarantee that your payment will get there on time if you set up the payment at least 7 days before the due date. If it's late and you are charged a fee the bank refunds that fee to you.

This happened to me years ago, with one particular card. Every month, for several months, the payment was late, even though I'd mail it 3 weeks before the due date (this was before internet access).

I sent the next payment registered, return receipt requested. They got it in 2 days. My payments never posted late again. Go figure.... ;)

I would just sign up for online payments. You can set it up that you have to send the payment and not so that it's automatic. The banks can get your banking information from check payments so I don't think one method of payment is more or less secure then the other.

It is reasons like this that congress enacted the last C.A.R.D. act to try and regulate the credit card inudstry. They had credit card company execs testifying to congress about purposefully applying payments late among many other shady tactics. The industry is corrupt and greedy and I will have nothing to do with it…

One of the many tricks of the trade.. Considering their shady practices, I wouldn't even consider online payments.. I would get rid of the card instead..

I think ya'll missed the point she is trying to make.

She is making the payments on time, but they are withholding posting the payment to her account.

This is wrong for several reasons, other than just plain bad business pratice, Carrying the higher balance calculates more interest on the account, therefore accruing higher interest charges.

We had that problem with our first mortage. I'd send the payment in on the 20th, assuring it arrive by the 25th, 5 days in advance of the payment date. The check would clear the bank by the 1st each month, but they would not post it against the mortgage. Each day that went by each month ( 10-13 days) was more money that wasn't being paid down, & accuring interest on.

If you don't want the cc company to know your bank account number then do online bill pay thru your bank. Most banks guarantee that your payment will get there on time if you set up the payment at least 7 days before the due date. If it's late and you are charged a fee the bank refunds that fee to you.

You do realize that you send them your bank account information every time you write a check?

I think what you mean to say is if you don't want to give them authorization to charge your checking account then do online bill pay through your bank.

Yes I realize that, but it's not usually kept on file like when you pay directly thru the cc website. I personally don't have a problem paying online, but it seemed like the OP didn't want to do it because most of the time your bank acct information is saved to your profile.
