When we were at CC in May, I noticed that it looked like there was some renovations happening on the island. It looked like maybe some roads etc... I never bothered to ask,...does anyone know if they are planning new things to do there in the future?
I did ask how many people live on the island...and someone said about 100. Apparently they get everything ready for the upcoming cruises and such...I thought that interesting. I wonder if they were right about that? I never saw any homes or anything.
Right before we left on our trip, my doctor mentioned to me that he was upset that Disney bought the island, because he is a sailer on his time off, and had sailed to the island many times before anyone owned it. They would just dock and hang out on the island for a while...too bad for him but good for the rest of us!!! :rotfl2:

i heard they are adding a swim with the stingrays excursion...anyone know when? :flower:

I doubt there are 100 people wholive on the island I honestly think it is somewhere around 20 or 25. Their is cast Member housing area, bunkers really that are located somewhere behind to food and beverage pavilions, (there is a small access road from the fake airstrip.)

The Cast members that live on the island rotate out from the ship or from WDW for several weeks at a time with a couple exceptions (Island Manager, ect) most of the team is made up of Lifeguards, horticulture and maintenance. I know there is a lot of work to get the island ready for the ship with such a small team but if you think about it there are only three days a week the ship is on the island and right now there are only two days since the Magic is on the west coast.

A frirend of mine used to be a lifeguard on the island and said in the afternoons when the ship was not there they would jump off the end of the dock and swim for hours. At nigt the bugs are soooooooo bad they are called "noseeums" because they are so tiny you don't see them, another reason the ship departs before dark.

During times of bad storms or hurricanes after securing the island they take a boat and head over the nearest big island (I think is Nassau but not sure).

The Disney Cruise Line special that they run on the Travel channel (which was on last week) said that there are about 30 something people who live on CC at any one time. Not sure when that was filmed, but I think it's still about the same number of people. HTH

Yes, they are adding a stingray excursion right there at CC. Won't be done for a while though.
