There may be a few nights where my mom and brother may not want to have dinner with us. So we are trying to figure out if there is anything to do at the resort during the evening for them. is there anything to do? We are going November 29 to December 8.

Pool? I don't think so. It won't be that warm to use it. Besides, my mom would not use it unless it's 80+ degrees out.

Game room is out as well, since my brother is 38 and my mom is 66. So that won't work either.

Is there anything else for them to do besides hanging out in their room?

Must they be confined to the resort? Could they not go somewhere else? Perhaps DTD or the Boardwalk. Or to a restaurant of their choosing at another resort?

One thing you need to know about my mom is that she gets very nervous over things (but we have an excellent and close releationship). My father passed away in 2008 and she's still trying to get used to doing things without him. She's getting better every year, though. The last time we were at Disney as a family (6 years before I got married) my father was there. She's a bit unsure of things and afraid of getting lost using the bus transportation. Once she gets the hang of it though, I'm sure she'll be a pro at it.

My brother is 38 and has a slight learning disability, but he should be able to navigate the bus transportation once we explain it to him. And DH and I are always available on our cell phones if they need us to help them navigate.

Eating at another restaurant isn't the issue, b/c she is a light eater. She can have a big breakfast, no lunch and have a light dinner or a light breakfast, a big lunch and no dinner. Due to my brother's Rx meds that he is on, he sometimes doesn't feel like eating dinner or will just have dinner (we're trying to get him to change that). So if my family goes out to dinner without them, it will be b/c they are not hungry and will not be having dinner.

The Boardwalk and DTD sound like a good idea to do at night. Anyone know from previous years, around what time those close during the first week of December?

My 78 year old mother went with us to the CBR the last two years and there were several days that she stayed at the resort instead of going to the parks with us. We traveled during May and June and not the Winter months so she was able to sit outside and people watch or just take in the relaxing atmosphere. I would suggest that your mother and brother bundle up (if it's cold) and head over to Old Port Royale one evening so that they can watch the Epcot fireworks. The higher Illumination fireworks can be seen from several spots around the resort but you can see them better from Old Port Royale. There are quite a few tables and chairs in the OPR courtyard as well as a picnic tables that they can sit and watch from.

CBR offers movies under the stars. I would assume they would still be offered in early Dec. Just have mom and brother bring a blanket from the room.

They could also always go to dinner with you to visit. Unless you are going to a buffet or character meal, they do not have to order or pay.

That sounds like a nice idea, too. CBR is also close to Pop as well, which is where we stayed back in 2006. We were in the 50's area and could see the fireworks, from I believe, MGM (ok, I'm still having a hard time calling it Hollywood Studios).

That's another great idea.

I'll bring the laptop over so that I can pull up this thread for them to see the available choices. When I spoke with her on the phone before, I brought up going to DTD and the Boardwalk and she said those were good options. So much has changed since they were there in 93 so there will be a lot for them to see. It's almost like going for the first time.

What about a stay at POR? They have evening entertainment in the Lounge.
Bob Jackson puts on a fun show, and they have a boat to DTD. So a few more options.

The movie under the stars is right there at OPR, near the pool bar. Its actually a lot of fun, dh and I did that one evening last month. We grabbed dinner at the food court, ate outside then they started the movie (It was Tangled the night we sat there). They set the movie up right in that courtyard near the pool bar Mickeystoontown mentioned in her post. They have seating set up or you can see it from many of the tables. We left a bit early to take a walk and watched Illuminations from the beach area in Jamaica.

Downtown Disney is easily accessed and there is shopping, a movie theater, lots of dining and its always fun to head there.

I will also admit, dh and I brought a DVD player and hooked that up to our tv in the room. A couple of nights we headed to our room a bit early and just chilled with a movie in the room. We were there 11 nights and we just didn't feel up to doing the parks every single night. I think we did three resort nights total over the trip.

Downtown Disney is always open late, the Boardwalk, I can't remember for sure but its at least 10:00. If they did the Boardwalk, they could see some of Illuminations from that area as well. The only problem with Boardwalk, is they will need to take a bus from the Boardwalk resort, to another park or DTD, then transfer to a CBR bus. DTD they can take a bus directly to and from CBR to get there and back.

Good luck, you are a very sweet son and brother to research this to give them an idea of what they can do on nights they don't feel like eating dinner!

The grounds at CBR are gorgeous. It's very pleasant to walk around there, or grab a hammock and relax. It would be possible for them to take a cab from CBR to the Boardwalk and back, if having too many transfers would be a problem.

Ok, I called Disney yesterday evening and DTD was recommended as previous posters here have also said. I also asked about the outdoor movie and was told that runs all year but she didn't have the schedule for that yet for our dates.

Another thing the CM told me about was a carriage ride at FW. Now that was something I didn't know about. It wasn't anywhere on their site (at least not where I looked). So I called Disney's Tour line to find out more. It's $45 for a 25 minute ride and runs every 1/2 hour from 5:30 pm until 10 pm. It does seem a bit high to me, but then again, my mom has never pampered herself. So we thought this might be another option for her and my brother to do. Of course, it also depends on the weather. Hey, maybe DH and I will take that ride and leave DS9 with grandma and his uncle. Or then again, we might take him with us.

Both of them do like the idea of going to DTD and it sounds like that's most likely what they will do.

Thanks everyone for the help.
