I understand that when you book a "preferred room" that means you are close to Old Port Royale- my question is this.....does this mean that I cannot request that it also be a waterview room? Im not sure what to do? We would like to be close to the main building but aren't crazy about a "parking lot" view either. What do you think? :confused3

Even the parking lot views at CBR are good. There is so much landscaping it is hard to see the cars.

Thanks SafetyMom! I know you are a veteran of this resort, so let me ask you this- do you think its a waste of money to pay extra for the "preferred location"? How much of a walk is it from one of the farther buildings to the main building and pool?

I am a fan of the preferred locations. If you have a family I think it is great. There are lots of other great locations too. It's about a 15 min. walk from Trinidad South which is like its own separate resort it is so far away.

Oh wow...I think we will pay the extra $$ Thanks again! :)

Many folks like to stay in Jamaica or Aruba which is across the lake. We enjoyed being close to the main pool and food court.

We check into the CBR on July 1. If you do not get a preferred room what is the best location. I would like to know which building or area to request that is not a preferred location. We requested non smoking, first floor room. Any other suggestions??? I appreciate the help.

Jamaica or Aruba are popular with a lot of folks. They are across the lake from the main pool and food court.

If you read through the FAQ II thread listed below you will find lots of suggestions of where to stay.

Ditto what Safetymom said. Check out her FAQ's - they are tremendous. I highly recommend the preferred locations - just more convenient, but the whole resort is beautiful. Although our room in Martinique (preferred location) also looked out onto the lake, she is absolutely right about the parking lot views -- almost all of them overlook gardens and landscaping -- I suppose there may be some that overlook cars, but not many. Next time we're there, I'll be paying for the preferred location, requesting Martinique building 25 and hoping we get it, but I'll be happy with whatever we get. It's just a beautiful resort... kind of like a vacation within your vacation.

Just got back yesterday. I reserved a standard view, non perfered room and was upgraded to a Water View Perfered room at no charge. They have just begun painting the exterior of building 25 (Martinique). Also, the bus stops at Martinique and Jamaica are being referbished.

let me preface this by saying we enjoyed CBR overall, however...

We were assigned to Martinique building 26 ground floor parking lot view. We were very disappointed. :( Honestly, we felt like we were in an overpriced Holiday Inn. There was no 'magic' looking out the window to a parking lot of cars and the maintainence end of Old Port Royale.

I did go to the Customs House and request a change. We were moved to Martinique Building 25 ground floor (ground floor was necessary due to dh's knee problems) waterview. The difference was drastic.

I would recommend asking for a non-parking lot view, unless you want easy car access. The courtyards and waterviews were beautiful. :)

Dont get me wrong, but CBR just dosent have that "Disney" warm fuzzy feeling like others give you (Boardwalk, POFQ, Wilderness Lodge). CBR is a very nice hotel, but in my opinion, its for people that are more into the whole "beach" experience.

Just my opinion but I think CBR has a lot of Disney feeling. That is one of the reasons we love it. You get to feel like you have escaped to the islands Disney style.

That is what I think is great about WDW. You have different hotels for different tastes. :)

I agree, if you don't like a certain hotel, theres many more to choose from!

We personally wouldnt pay extra because we stayed in Jamaica when we went and it was pretty close to OPR-just across the bridge. :)
