I received a free dining pin and I'm crunching some numbers to see if we can make a fall trip possible. Would you book a preferred room or a pirate room (I have 2 boys 12 and 6) . It's only an extra $50.60 for the pirate room standard. I know the pirate rooms are a good ways from the food court. Any experience with the pirate rooms???

The Pirate rooms are quite nice, if you don't mind the long walk. I've stayed at that section before they were converted and it's quite far. I personally would pay extra to stay closer to the food court. After a couple days of traversing the parks, walking just to eat at the resort is not fun.

There's the option of the internal bus if you don't want to walk, and the section has it's own bus stop, so getting to/from the parks won't be a problem. It's just a question of paying extra for theme or for convenience.

Actually it's cheaper to stay closer which was very surprising to me!!! Thanks for your input!!!

We stayed in a pirate room last summer. The room itself was really pretty cool. Lots of theming--beds look like ships, carpet looks like planks, etc. Kids loved it. So that was cool.

However, they really are pretty dang far from anything. It was a ten minute walk to the food court and pool. If we ever were to stay there again, there is no question we'd stay in a preferred room. The resort is huge, and being that far away from everything was kind of annoying.

I don't think they are worth it simply because of the beds. The mattresses in the beds are only about 4" thick. They're more of a topper than an actual mattress. They are very uncomfortable, it's like princess and the pea. Here is a picture of the mattresses.

We stayed in the pirate room with DS. The beds are not the most comfortable but our DS loved that they were pirate ships. He was worth it for the memories with him.

Preferred room, hands down. Was worth it when we went in January. The resort is huge and he pirate rooms are the furthest out. In the morning the bus often even skipped that stop because they were already so crowded.
