I'm still trying to finalize plans for a trip in early December of 2016. I'm looking at most likely 4-5 nights at Disney and then 2 additional nights at Universal for SO and I, mid-40s, no kids this trip as our kids are older. I was all set to book a CBR King room. And then was looking at Mousesavers and I'm thinking that room only codes might be coming out for our dates in the next couple of weeks. It looks like there might still be availability for those dates at AKL in a standard room for about $400 more total over CBR. Worth it?

We do normally like to spend time at the resort so I'm thinking it might be worth it. And we like the restaurants at AKL.

Resort beautiful, Standard room could overlook service area. If that doesn't bother you. it is worth it at the right price.
Love this resort

I had a standard view when we were at Boardwalk, it wasn't too bad.

There are public areas to view the animals right? And since we are most likely looking at one of the slowest weeks of the year, I'm thinking I might book the standard view, and see if we could get upgraded to at least a pool view. If we get it, that's great. If not, we're still at what looks like a pretty nice resort.

Have stayed at both and while we loved everything about CBR (and wouldn't hesitate to return), we love the deluxe resorts, so AKL would be my choice. With that said, worth is subjective as it's different for everyone, but the extra cost would be worth it to us :).

Yes, there are several animal viewing areas around the resort. We've never stayed standard, but I wouldn't hesitate to book it if that's what was in my budget as AKL is an amazing resort with great dining options, nice pool, and a relaxing atmosphere :wizard:.

Thank you Mickeynut. As much as I would like to book Savanna View, I'm not sure if SO will be ok with the extra cost. The only other hesitation I have is that I'm wondering what the odds if we will be able to get a King room at AKL.

Also, can anyone compare how bus times might compare from AKL to the parks vs. CBR?

We stayed at AKL once and loved the resort. We booked standard but we actually got upgraded to a partial savannah view overlooking the area where they take the animals at night which was amazing. If I was going back in a few years with just my DH, I would definitely consider going back to AKL.

It is completely dependent on occupancy and how many others requested a king. Unfortunately none of us will know either.

AK-MK: 15-20 mins
AK-HS: 10 mins
AK-Ep: 10 mins
AK-AK: 5 mins

CBR-MK: 13-15 mins
CBR-HS: 5-6 mins
CBR-Ep: 6-7 mins
CBR-AK: 7-8 mins

We stayed at AKL in a standard view room and had a view of the ceiling of the bus area - not the roof, the ceiling. We had zero natural light in the room. We requested a room near the lobby, and the 3rd floor standard view rooms on Ostrich trail all have this "view".

However... we really enjoyed our stay at the resort. The pool area was great, we love the food options, and we were literally 3 minutes away from the busses.

I have stayed at CBR before and hated the size.

I absolutely loved loved loved AKL on an alone trip with my husband... I would stay there again in a heartbeat. We had a savanna view room and did NOT think it was worth it to pay extra, as we were out eating and at the parks during all the daylight hours, and never sat and enjoyed the animals. You can see the savanna from public areas, yes.

The restaurants in AKL are basically the best at WDW, IMO.

SO is not thrilled with the fact that the King at AKL is just a request so I think that's leaving me with either booking a moderate King room or spending a bit more and getting a 1 BR at OKW. I'm still going to take him to AKL for dinner at least this trip.

We have stayed at both resorts, and personally I LOVE AKL! Something about it just makes me happy. Well I am at Disney, so I guess being happy is a given, but AKL makes me smile the whole time I am there. My husband who hates to spring for anything that costs more, said it was worth it just to see me so happy every time I stepped into the lobby. We had a standard view. It was fine. If you can get it, go for it. Why? Because it will make you happy!! Heck, I'm happy just thinking about it.

After a super stressful week at work, I just booked 4 nights at a totally different resort than I was originally looking at, and earlier also. Lol. We may still go in December too but I'm really needing a break from work.

4 nights at BC with tax in September came to $1288. I've always wanted to stay there and it usually seems to be booked when I want to go. I liked being able to walk to Epcot when I stayed at BWV so we'll see how BC compares. I'm really hoping we can get a King so SO is happy. He will like the walking distance part though.
