CBR ECV first floor room

I don't need any of the features of an accessible

+1 I don't want to take a HA that might be needed by another guest. I never thought for even a minute to book a HA room.

I started this thread because the CM I spoke to was unable to list the reason for my first floor request. The room assignor has no way of knowing the reason for my request.

I'll either call again or fax. I'll be at the resort by around 10a. I doubt I'll have any trouble getting a room change, if necessary.

A moderator can close this thread. I know my options.
Thanks to all.

I discovered when making medical requests of my own that the normal reservation CMs don't always know how to do it properly, but there ARE CMs who are trained in how to:

contact Disability Services at (407) 560-2547

Alternatively, the number I used previously was for "Special Reservations" and was (407)939-7807. I'm not sure if they still use that number or prefer you to call Disability Services now.

FYI the latest version of the Magic Kingdom Guide for Guests with Disabilities still has the "Special Reservations" (407) 939-7807 number still listed as the one to call: [see https://secure.cdn1.wdpromedia.com/...ations/magic-kingdom/mk-0519-gfgwd-os-web.pdf ]

423196

When I had to call them I had tried the main reservation number first. The CMs there have a limited space they can put a room request in [something like 30 characters or something; regardless of the length, it is SHORT]. For one set of the medical requests I needed there is actually a whole separate FORM they have to fill out. The CM at normal reservations apparently did not know this. It was rather frustrating and I was not confident my requests were entered properly.

So I then called the Special Reservations number. The CM there knew EXACTLY what to do, what questions to ask, what forms to fill out. In my case, they had to actually call the resort and speak with the housekeeping manager to make sure what was needed could be done, which they did with me on hold. They then gave me the name of that manager in case I had issues when we arrived. While they shouldn't need to do that for your request, the point is that the Special Reservations CMs are trained and know how to handle medical and accessibility-related requests, which normal reservation CMs may or may not be able to navigate.

Good luck.

To the OP, after you talk with someone at WDW about this, would you please either PM me with the results or post here? I often stay at OKW, which also has very few elevators, and I’d be interested if there’s any further resolution to this. Thanks.

I am in a wheelchair and absolutely cannot do any stairs at all - not even one. What this says to me is that Disney doesn’t care at all about my reserving a room onsite. If they don’t honor my request for a 1st floor room will they still charge me a fee for not checking in?
It is your responsibility to choose a resort that can accommodate you..to include one that has elevators.

No, it means that a) if you're at a resort with elevators, it doesn't matter whether or not you're on the first floor and b) if you're at a resort without elevators, you need to book an accessible room.

While it's great if Disney is able to honor a request for a first floor room for medical reasons, I see no reason why they should have to - that's what accessible rooms are for, especially in resorts without elevators.

I called the disability services number posted earlier in this thread. They were able to update my reservation request to show the medical reason for my ground floor request. It's not guaranteed but I wanted to make sure it was listed as more then just a preference. CBR is showing as sold out for my dates.

CBR has over 2,000 rooms, half of which are on the ground floor. Ground floor is a reasonable request. I'll wait for a ready room, if required. Guests make very specific requests. One site will fax a request so specific less then a handful or rooms meet the request. Countless posters on countless threads try to figure out how to book a standard view room at AKL but get a savaneigh view room. How to book a garden view at POLY but get at least a partial lagoon view. I dont agree with some of the PP. Requesting a room, for medical reasons, which can be met with half, of the resort over 1,000, rooms, is reasonable. The question isn
t what is the minium Disney can do but rather what is a reasonable request which can be met.

Simba's Mom. I read OKW has 210 studios and 210 one bedroom units. I don't know how many of them are either ground floor or located in an building with an elevator. The question is how many units in your category will be available the day you check in and how many other guests have a reason to request ground floor or elevator. I'm happy with any room out of 1,000. You may be down any unit of 100 (give or take). Your request may be iffy if very few untis are open when you check in. In your circumstances I'd definitely try to book a HA unit. What about SSR? I'm asking Disney to give me an available room. Your request might require blocking a unit a few days or asking a guest to change units. You said you've had no problemsin the past. Maybe my logic is off.

Thank you for taking the time to update, and good luck with your request being fulfilled and enjoy your trip !!

Please report back after your trip and let us know how it went !!

I just got off the phone with Disney concerning our stay next week. I requested ground floor (POP) and explained that we would have a scooter. I had previously talked to Disabilty Services concerning this as well as other concerns. She said there is a form on my file and should I need any further assistance to go to front desk at anytime.

I don’t think anyone has said a first floor request is unreasonable. Just that it isn’t guaranteed and there have been (rare) times it wasn’t available.

Just a thought on the “1 of 1000” rooms logic ... while i agree the logic makes sense, the math is a little tighter. CBR lost quite a few rooms with the gondolas and Riviera construction. I think it’s down to ~1500. So 750 are ground floor. Maybe 1/4th turn-over each day, so 375. Then there are 8 different categories or room-types, not counting HA options. Maybe 1 in 50 is closer to accurate. But I don’t point this out to nay-say — just to show what on the surface seems to be a simple request to accommodate may not be so simple.

I would keep calling to “confirm” the request is there, and eventually get someone who knows how to add the “medical” or “ECV” notation as well. Waiting until arrival limits options as rooms have already been assigned by that point, and several room numbers likely already shared with arriving guests. I do think there is s very high chance you’ll get the first floor room.

Enjoy your vacation!

I wound up with a HA room, not one with a roll in shower. As expected I had to wait for prior guest to check out and housekeeping. Room was available around 2.

Lanejudy the internet sites which discuss Disney resorts are showing maps and resort descriptions reflecting Riviera. They are still showing over 2000 rooms. I didn't realize the error until I read your post.
I never expected a problem.

I have had this problem time and time again. We have stayed at OKW 3 times. The first time we were given a first floor room but had to be moved as it was building 44 and right next to a turning roundabout and opposite a bus stop, and every time a bus stopped it beeped - right through until gone 1am. We got a room on the second floor of building 62 - which has a lift.

The other two times I have specifically marked up the booking as needing a first floor room as I will have a scooter - and both times it's ended up with a huge disagreement at check-in because they've given us a second floor in a building without a lift, and then claimed they couldn't move us! I got our first floor rooms in the end, but it was a nightmare and it really put me off wanting to stay there again.
