I am seeking advice on CBR....we stayed at POR 5 years ago and loved it, particularly the green, low key feel. Really considering this next trip in September staying at CBR for the tropical vacay feel but I have read very mixed reviews. We know the double beds would be a bit of an adjustment (and my 10 year olds would have to share) and we would get a preferred room to stay in close proximity to the food stuff. It's the theme that we would be mainly going for...our other option would be to go for POR again (which is where we are booked at now) but I would like to try something new :) We live in AZ so I worry about CSR being too Southwest-feeling for us but some have said it's more like tropical Mexico vacay feeling and I have heard that the resort is even more spread out than CBR!

We are there for 6 nights end of Sept, will do 5 days of parks and it will be me, DH, and DS/DD 10 year old twins. We will eat QS bfast all but one of the mornings at the resort before the parks and will have the dining plan (hopefully free!). We will be using Disney transport (no car).
Thx!

This question seems to come up a bunch, and you get the pro's n cons from both sides...

IMHO CSR usually always wins out...I Know I'll have the CBR police looking for me but you asked so I'm gonna give you my opinion..
:rotfl2:

Here goes: 1st off I also have twin 10 yr olds mixed as well, and we've been to all the mods.

POR was great except for the buses...But not enough to keep us away... POFQ was similar in some ways but the bldgs were too close to each other which made it kinda fell claustrophobic. Also the pool is geared toward the younger ones.
CBR is Waaay spread out, and just waay to far to wal it appears... restaurant was ok. pool is good though..Theming was just Mah imho, & the beds are doubles....OUCH!! Buses were not good here either.. At least whi;e we were there.

Now for CSR: Hmm what can i say

We like to call it a Deluxe-Lite...Sooo much for soo much less than a deluxe costs.

Theming here is very cool.. All 3 designated areas are difeerent and each appeals to their own tastes... Room are all updated and nice..Beds are the comfiest that Ive slept in. The food at all 3 places to eat are very good as well as the Customer service...The feature pool here is Amazing & your kids will love it..One of the longest slides out of all pools on WDW property including deluxes,,, Also the opening ceremonies to open the pool are pretty neat too...They also have a HUGE Hot tub over there as well as a very well equipped pool bar/snack area.
Busses is where the place sets itself apart...The ABSOLUTE Best of any that Ive stayed in BY FAR....Never did we wait for a 2nd bus nor did I have to stande going or returning from any park..EVER.

I would suggest checking into pictures and get some more insight but, from 1 Disney lover here, This place is Incredible:thumbsup2

I love CBR. We stayed there for our honeymoon and loved it. I loved the theme, the tropical feel, it's quiet and serene. The only thing I didn't love were the buses...they were slow and always took a long while to wait from what I recall. I would stay there again in a heartbeat, but until they finish the refurb and upgrade to all queen beds, my family of 4 won't fit there comfortably so it's not really an option for us until that happens.

We always tend to steer away from CSR for the same reasons you mentioned...too Southwest-y for us.

I am about to do my first stay at CBR in 2 weeks so I can't really comment on that just yet, but we did love CSR. We were in the ranchos section which is the furthest from the main building and the more "southwest-y feel" section. We found it to be very nice and the walk from Ranchos to the main building was not terribly long and actually quite nice. No issues with buses that I remember. The only reason we didn't book it this upcoming trip was that we wanted to try another resort just because we could! We soon will be a family of 5 and that will limit our options some. We really debated on just going back to CSR because we liked it so much but decided to try something new while we still could.

Actually CBR is more spread out than CSR.
CBR: 2100 rooms spread around a 45 acre oblong lake.
CSR: 1900 rooms spread around a round 22 acre round lake.

Since you will not have a car you might want to read up on the bus situation at CBR. Many talk about all the stops and it takes longer to get to where you are going. Factor that in if you are booking ADRS direct from resort. We opted to drive everywhere from CBR.

We LOVE CBR!!!!! We have stayed at the others and always come back to CBR:). Kids really love the theming, the music, and we like the pools better. Don't pay for preferred, request bldg 44 or 45 Jamaica, close to bus stop and close to food court. We hated the busses at POR and CSR but we have never had a problem at CBR and we have stayed there 5 times now.

CSR has a pool that would probably appeal more to your children. It's one of our favorite resorts at WDW and that includes DVC and the deluxe resorts. CSR is laid back and quiet. The rooms feel more upscale and the staff is wonderful.
The Casitas section reminds me of Cancun when it was first opening up as a tourist resort. We like Casitas 5.
Cabanas is like the Bahamas or Bermuda. 8A is great.
Ranchos is more like the Southwest so request one of the other 2 sections if you're looking for something different. 7B is close to the Dig Site pool.

We enjoyed our stay at CBR. We were in Jamaica, close to everything without spying preferred. We had good bus service there, and thought the grounds were very pretty. I have nothing bad to say about CBR.

But

POR is our fav moderate. Rooms were refurbed not long ago, queen beds. I feel POR had a little more to offer, with the boat to DTD, fun evening entertainment, horse & carriage rides, fishing hole, and great food court. Love the make your own omelette bar in the morning.
We love the mansion section. So peaceful walking along river path.

DW, DMIL, and I stayed at CBR in 2010. While I loved the theme, I wound up having a pretty severe allergic reation to the flora there. If I could do it over, I would have stayed at CSR (which lost out to CBR by a coin flip)

We have stayed at CBR, CSR and POR and for our money hands down POR is the clear winner. They have the most beautiful grounds the boat to DTD, the best table service restaurant of the MODS, great pool bar, nice indoor lounge and food court, and did I mention the most beautiful grounds?:)

If you definitely want to try something new we'd pick CSR over CBR.

Good luck.

We've never stayed at CSR, but we loved CBR. We thought the grounds were beautiful, the food court had a good variety, the pool was fun, and we found the buses to be quick and efficient. There are internal bus stops, but even with that, we found that it didn't take more than about 10 minutes to get to any theme park, water park, or DTD. I also think your kids would love the pirate themed pool. Good luck.

CBR is bigger than CSR in all aspects - square foot wise, room-wise, and layout wise IMO. The tropical Mexican-esque section would be Cabanas, which you can be guaranteed if you book a business class room. Steer clear of preferred rooms because they are all in Casitas which is probably reminiscent of where you live. FWIW, we thought CSR had the best bus transportation and housekeeping - better than our previous two stays at POR. Only thing we didn't care for was the food options and Pepper Market in general.

As far as the resort feeling like home too much, I can understand that. We're from upstate NY and grew up near Saratoga, so I was hesitant to try SSR. It ended up being cool to see how well it was themed since I had something to compare it to, and I could appreciate the details of it. Just another perspective :thumbsup2

Stayed at CBR(1x), CSR(2x), and POR(3x)

CBR: My choice: Stayed at the CBR for the first time March 2014, loved it. All the negative reviews have to do with walking. The pool is nice, has a great slide and near the food court. Everything in one place. Plus you can see the fireworks from Epcot on the Jamaica Beach. Short bus rides to TL, Epcot, DHS. There is a beautiful tropical island in the middle too. 2 sinks!

CSR - Cabanas: Mexican island feel. Pool is great but not near the food court. 1 sink and conventioneers.

POR: Fun, but like you, looking for a change.

PS: Check the menus at the food court. CSR is $1-3 higher for the same item. For a family of 4 it's like paying for a family of 5!

Yes , youre correct but factor in that you already will have your seat and drink at the table when you do get your food. (@ CSR that is) So no longer are you, 1) waiting in a long line to pay for your food (while it gets cold) or 2) after paying, now looking for a table to seat your party. Hence more time wasted...To me the little bit extra I pay for this luxury in the grand scheme of a $3 or 4,000 trip is well worth it imho. This is just my $.02
