'Caveman' on ABC

It says a lot about today's Walt Disney Company when they put the line "keep your ***** in your genus" in a family sitcom at 8:00 at night.

It's a line that even this discussion board won't allow me to post, but it's fine for childern as Disney tries to be "hip and edgy".

It's one thing for a show to be crass - a commerical turned into a series only for money and because Disney is out of ideas. But it's another for them to not even try. We write a lot around here about fewer chicken fingers and bad attractions - but nothing I have ever seen Disney put together just feels so utterly empty as this show. At every level, from the writing to the production to the acting - no one cared. Not a single attempt was made at anywhere to do a good job with anything that appeared on the screen. No professional that I know would have put their name to such a thing.

In all the bad things that Disney has done, there was at least the tinest bit of glimmer that some at least cared a little bit. Dino-Rama is a disgrace, but you can tell the designers at least tried to excute a bad idea well. Chicken Little was a bad movie, but you still got the sense that no matter how misguided, there was some effort behind it.

But this - this show created by Disney, produced by Disney and shown on a Disney network - is unique. 'Caveman' is a completely cynical waste created by people that not only have no respect for us, the audience - they appear to have no respect for themselves or their work either.

If Disney was run by people with honor, with pride and with a sense of respect to their veiwers - the 'Caveman' time slot would be filled for the rest the year with live coverage of Bob Iger going around to each home in America and personally appologizing to us all.

After 2 mins "HULK SMASH!!!!! It feels like Iger came to my house and kicked me in the **** used my TV as a bathroom. I felt dirty and a little dumber for watching as much as I did. (7-8 mins)

I didn't bother. What I didn't like in the publicity shots is that the cavemen didn't even look like the guys from the Geico commercials. They changed the makeup a LOT & that bothered me.

I mean....was anybody from the commercials in the show itself? Maybe all the commercial's actors had better sense...

I guess you haven't had the opportunity to watch the new Disney Princess video. I know it sounds trival but that is what they are the best at,right? I thought the days of the horrible sequels was over but this is just as bad. A true example of "only for money and because Disney is out of ideas."

If they are hiring the best and the brightest what does that say about the workforce in general? I hate to see mediocre.

I can honestly say it was the second worst thing i watched on Tuesday night, the worst being the show after, carpool. and to think they cancelled george lopez for this !!! I noticed that abc is effectively only programing 5 nights anymore because they show reruns on friday and saturday, thank heavens bones is on opposite this drivel.

I watched about 15 minutes but couldn't do anymore. One of the cavemen was on The View earlier and he was hilarious. I watched only for that reason but was disappointed . The commercials are so bad. I should have known better.

I disagree with choice A in that AotKT is at least so bad it's good and has the cult status to prove it. I don't foresee any Caveman cult forthcoming.

Im really not worried about the first week ratings, since as you can tell from this thread, people who didnt even like the idea watched to see what kind of train wreck it is. The second week ratings will tell the full story

Disney apparently already has a hint since there are rumors Disney has cancelled to ad and marketing campaigns for the show. Why poor good money after bad. The detailed ratings (which are harder to find) also measure how long people watch the show and also which segments they are watching. Rumors are buzzing about that 'Caveman' dropped a large portion of its audience from the first fifteen minutes to the second. Tuesday will tell an even stronger story. The audience is not shy about tuning out programs they don't like - when 'The Bionic Woman' lost a third of its audience from the first week to the second, the show went from "solid hit" to "one the track to cancellation".

If Bob Iger had any pride in Disney, he'd have cancelled 'Cavemen' already.

I won't watch Caveman because I think the idea was totally assinine to begin with. A 30 second commercial is one thing but anything more is way too much. ABC use to be the network I watched the most. Those days are long gone. The shock factor that led them to name a show Dirty **** Money is enough to make me not watch that one on principal alone. Big Shots is another piece of pure trash being foisted on us by the "New" Disney. I had no intention of watching it. My Mother put it on because she thought it sounded interesting, she obviously hadn't caught the endless commercials the two weeks leading up to it that showed how crass it truly is. After about 5 minutes she asked me if I wanted to watch it or could she change the channel. I just happened to be in the room doing something else I wasn't even watching the show since I knew I wasn't interested in wasting my time.

In the interest of professional research (except I don't get paid) I watched it last week.

From beginning to end.

It was horrible. It's not that hard to make me laugh a bit. Saturday Night Live hasn't been truly funny in years, but they still get a laugh out of me here and there. The only time anything on Caveman made me chuckle at all was when they would say something that was so stupid it was funny in a sad way.

The only caveman that could possibly save this thing would be Phil Hartman's Unfrozen Caveman. Since he isn't coming back, the sooner they lay waste to this joke of a TV show the better.
