I just read this on the Budget Travel magazine website. (I thought it was odd that we got a pizza flyer under our door at POR a couple of weeks ago. It was from a "company" located off property. I glanced at it and thew it out. I'm glad I did!) Maybe this info will help fellow Disers avoid this scam.

Orlando
Here's a scam so bad even Mickey Mouse took a stand. Guests in hotels around Disney World have been finding pizza delivery menus conveniently slipped under their doors, but place an order-and make the mistake of giving your credit card number-and you'll really pay. The phone number isn't connected to a pizza parlor but to identity thieves. Disney World supported a law designed to crack down on the people handing out the fliers, but Orlando police say the problem persists.

Solution: If you're craving a slice, get a recommendation from the hotel.

There will also be a flyer near your room phone with info about this.

We were there Sep 16th through Sep 26th. We received a flyer under our door from Roma's pizza every day. I don't know if they are legit or not, but it was an annoyance. They were immediately placed in file 13.

if you do receive one, please give it to the FD as soon as possible. the sooner, the better, so the staff can be on the lookout.
the BW FD told us that some of these people actually rent a room, just so they will have a reason to wander the halls if they are caught.

My DM and I stayed at the YC in August 2010 and there were two guys putting these flyers under the doors. As we were passing them, they handed one to us and we kept walking. Our room was at the end of the hallway next to the stairs and they were behind us at this point so I told my mother to take the stairs. I didn't want them to know that was our room. We went to the front desk to report them and I don't know what happened after that.

There was a notice next to our phone telling us about these con artists. Unfortunately, unless they are caught red handed, there is no way possible that WDW will be able to stop them. You can take a taxi to any resort and you are in with no problem. The only way to put a wrench in their plans is through word of mouth and places like the DIS. These people make me so :furious:

yes, Disney does a good job of warning about these guys now. In room posts are available warning of this scam.

We saw the same flyers for Roma's several nights during our stay at the Poly, September 9-18. We never saw anyone delivering them, but it happened several nights after 10:00 pm. We were staying in Hawaii building, so unless they had a room in that building - I have no idea how they got in..

We got one when we stayed at POR. We thought it was really weird because we had just stepped out and put the do not disturb sign in, then realized we had forgotten our mugs so we headed back (within 1-2 minutes) and the flyer was all the way in the middle of the room.

We were at CSR Sept 10th-18th and got several pushed into our door.

They could have just walked through the door when someone else unlocked it. Everyone is always so polite, that they don't think that the person they are letting in really shouldn't be there. I ran into that a lot when I stayed at BLT. I think I only had to use my own room key to access the building once or twice during a 10 day stay - but at least I was supposed to have access to the building.

The real trick is that if you order a pizza from these scammers you will receive your pizza. You then think all is fine. When in reality you called a scammer who simply took all your info then called in a pizza order for you. Of course later they start raping your credit card.

We received one of these flyers a while back on a WDW trip. A couple days later pizza sounded good so we ordered but I couldn't find the flyer so I looked up the restaurant on my iPad. We then found the flyer, the number wasn't even close.

On the Orlando Visitor's Channel ( I don't know its actual name) there's a segement on this sort of thing. They warn the pizza may have been cooked in a garage . . . or worse. We always marvel at what could be worse? An engine block, maybe?

Once we made the mistake of ordering from one of those places. They didn't steal from us but, holy cats, it was flat-out awful. It was called Orlando's Best but was the world's worst!

1) Stay with the top pizza joints.
2) If in doubt, look the number up in the phone book.
3) DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT use the flyers !!!!
4) We recommend

Giordano’s

Pizza Hut Westgate

Papa John’s

We just returned from our two week visit to the world and stayed at BLT, BC and AKV and the ONLY place we didnt have flyers in our room was Beach Club. Each time I took it to the front desk and they told me they would deal with it right away. I also spoke with a security guard that was checking the hallway one night and he was writing down a list of all the rooms that the flyers showed up in and told us that they are arresting people for putting the flyers out and to NEVER order from them. He said even if they aren't taking your Credit Card numbers they will go buy a frozen pizza or one ready made at the HESS and jack up the price and tell u it was from a delievery place. If you get one its really important to let the front desk know ASAP! :thumbsup2

I agree that it should be reported. From my hotel experience here though, the flyer person you catch at the hotel is the small fry, someone who the actual scammer found and pays a few bucks to do the delivery. They can find people needing money without much effort.

The real criminals behind this never do the actual delivery because they don't want to get caught. As the security guard's info shows they don't actually have to have a physical place of business just a phone number. They just keep moving around so are actually very hard to locate if they are good at it.

There is really only one way to deal with this and stop it. Everybody needs to ignore the flyers and stop ordering from them. They don't make money then the stop. That's why hotels put information about this in your room.
