Caution about Baby Swap

It was the Haunted mansion. I don't think they have a height requirement for that one but I still don't understand why they don't offer it.... i mean there were people FORCING their kids to go through that attraction and threatening to spank them when they got outside if they didn't hush up. the CM I asked was the first one right before you go inside..at the turnstile, I think. and he called ahead to the lady at the door and neither had a clue. I didn't try it on any other ride because I figured i must have been doing tit worng and I didn't want hubby and daughter to have to stand in line for nothing again.

I attempted to do this swap on this very ride and I was told they don't do it on that ride b/c anybody can ride it. the preshow would be enough to scare some kids. My niece was right beside us when we asked. This was in early june.

I can't say about it not having fast pass anymore (we didn't get a fast pass- did they close that part down? I didn't pay attention if the FP machines were gone but why would they get rid of fast pass on that ride?) but it definitely has the parent swap... we just did it in June!
I know that Fastpass is sometimes not used because the lines standby lines are short.
Some of the attractions that have Fastpass (like HM, Indiana Jones and ITTBAB), I have seen the CMs literally begging people to come into the standby line because there is a 15 minute or less wait. Sometimes people are so "hyped" on needing Fastpass, that they don't even look at the Standby line. I think when the standby line gets that short, they turn off the Fastpass machine.

HM has not had fast passes since January. The FP sign and FP machines are covered up. I personally have not seen a wait of more than 30 minutes in the last 5 months and most of the time it's 5-10 minutes.

Last week it was a 30 minutes wait during the afternoon, but it was 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes after about 7:30.

Just returned yesterday and can only comment that Haunted Mansion is not a FastPass attraction. Also, the MK map says: "Parent/Guardian Switch: Guests with young children may take turns experiencing attractions. See a Cast Member for additional information." It does not say "may take turns experiencing some attractions" so I would take that to mean that the switch would be available in general.

Also, each time we walked by the wait was over 45 minutes (with the exception of one time we walked by after a heavy rainstorm and the wait was down to 20 min).

If they truly got rid of FastPass FOREVER on Haunted Mansion- I can't figure out why. The lines are usually long from what I can see... ?

But they definitely let you do the parent swap there- we just did it.

We did haunted Mansion twice in April during Spring break. I could swear that the first time we rode, we did use Fastpass and the second time (on a different day) we rode, we didn't. I wonder if it was put back into service for Spring break (very busy time) and just used used or not used on a given day, depending on how busy ti was.

We used kid switch all the time on anything and everything and it works great. It is even better when combined with fast pass they you get to go twice in a short period of time.

You know- I think maybe you could be right about them closing it during slow times/opening it during busy times. I could have SWORN while I was standing there that the CM's (that kept switching out while I waited for my children) were checking FastPasses and letting people through the other line there... it was mid-June so maybe they opened it back up during the busy times?

Just curious- are you saying this means the FP machines are GONE and therefore canNOT ever be used again at any given time? Or are you saying that because FP were not available the day you went or weren't listed as a FP attraction on some literature while there or what?

I am only saying that as of 6/23 - 7/2 there was no an option to get a FastPass at Haunted Mansion. The signs directing you to the FastPass machines were not easily visible (though I could have missed them). And according the our Guidemaps for those 2 weeks, Haunted Mansion is not listed as a FastPass attraction. It does make sense that Disney would manage its crowds and use of FastPasses with the flexibility of using the machines some weeks but not others. But during our trip FP's were not available at HM. ;) (Don't you just love all the acronyms we DISers have in use?)

Rumor is that FP are moving from HM to Indy Speedway

HM is a hig capacity ride and the lines tend to be much shorter than the other lines in the park

That would make total sense because the Speedway had long lines everytime we walked by! Having FastPass available there would have been very nice.

Gotcha.. and I can't say for certain they were using FP on that ride when we stayed (13th-23rd of June) but it would make more sense if they were using them during my trip that they'd also use them during your trip... still busy season. LOL So now I wonder what exactly they were checking and letting people through a fastpass line to the side there. :confused3

I've never seen signs directing you to FP machines at HM... they are right there beside you as you enter the line. I know some (most?) rides have them in another area- but at HM the FP machines are like RIGHT THERE to your left, you have to walk a few feet away from them and right past them to get in line for HM.

All I can say for certain is that they let us do the parent swap during that trip. LOL

I agree about Indy Speedway too. Goodness gracious! I let my oldest two go ride that (when we walked over and found out SM was down but might be up again soon) while me and the youngest waited... I thought the line was short but apparently the line you see (the queue) up front isn't the ONLY line to get on the vehicles- it took them forever! The line was much longer than I thought from looking at the front.

They also don't have a baby switch at Kilamanjaro Safari either.

I'm sorry, but...yes, we do have the rider switch option at Kilimanjaro Safaris. It's not often it's requested there because there isn't a height restriction, but yes, we do have that option.

It has nothing to do with FP, though...everyone waits in line. While one parent boards the vehicle, the child waits with the other parent. When the vehicle returns, the parents switch places. (note: at Safaris this takes place at the handicap load dock...it's the only dock where the vehicle comes back to the same place)

At some rides, the child and parent wait at the exit of an attraction then switch (ie: Splash or BTMR)...while at others the first rider must use the normal exit then send the 2nd rider through FP entrance with their rider-switch pass(ie: RnR). Each attraction has their own system for various reasons.
