Cats peeing on rugs?

We have the same problem, and it's one of the reasons why once this cat is gone, we will never own another one again.

Us too. Our cat was doing this. Started when we moved to a new house and it never ended. When he died, that was the end of cats for us. My son is begging for one - he loves cats. I am so tempted because I do enjoy having a kitty around the house too. But I just can't take that chance again. Cats are almost entirely untrainable. That is a cute part of their personality until a very serious behavioral issue comes up. Then it's unbearable.

We had an old female that got into the habit of peeing on our bathroom mats. I asked the vet about this and she said she had an elder cat that was doing the same thing. She kept her in the laundry room during the day and just ended up putting old towels on the floor and then would wash the towels.

She explained, too, that it's a tactile thing. They get the feeling of something soft under their paws and they like it.

Until our old girl passed away, I ended up putting the bath mat on the tub every day before going to work. It seemed to work for us.

And ... a friend and I were discussing how it seems we've had more trouble with girl cats than boy cats doing this!
