Cats and Toilets - is yours intrigued and why???

Our cat that we have had now for about 7 weeks is just so intrigured by the toilet. She loves to be in there when you are going to the bathroom and does everything short of sticking her head in there when you flush. Why do they do this and does yours have this fascination????

She has yet to get in there (thank goodness) and will stand up on her legs, looking in there until you shut the lid. We keep the lid shut at all times just in case (I do know some cats like to drink out of the clean water and dogs too). I just don't get it - she just LOVES to watch it being flushed. Any clues???

All of my cats have been fascinated by it also. I don't quite get it either - maybe they like the running water cause my kitties also liked to stick their paws in the sink.

One of mine is this way...he basically tries to crawl into your pants if they are around your knees! LOL!!!
He also likes to sit on the edge of the tub while I take a bath....if I don't let him in the bathroom, he pounds on the door and cries, so it is not worth leaving him out there! LOL!!!
One day I swear he is gonna jump in! LOL!!!!

Kitties are so strange! but I love em anyway!

that was just fascinated with WATER......if someone forgot to put the lid down....he was in there playing with the water and making the place a sopping wet
but when Herman would jump into the tub if I had water in it......forget it.....the place was a mess......we finally got the family in tune to put the lid down and if we were taking a bath.....to shut the door when we ran the water.......Herman was a gorgeous long haired cat and when he got wet....he looked like a drowned rat......hahaha

My daughter cat, Kit, is the only one of our three cats fascinated with the toilet.

She waits until we are done, then just watches the water spinning. She is a weird cat!

My cat does the exact same things! He also likes to sit on my lap when I'm on the toilet. Try to figure that one out.

Oh and the tub....ROFL - last night after dd got out of the shower, Candi went into her bathroom (which we now have had to seal off when no one is upstairs because of a toilet paper incident ) and just sat on the floor staring up at the shower/tub. We were trying not to crack up cause dh was already sleeping but it was hilarious. It was like she wanted to pounce in there so bad but also like she was waiting for dd to come out of there or something - AND THE SHOWER CURTAIN WAS OPEN!!!!! Then one night last week she hopped into the tub in the master bath and I was in the closet doing something so I assumed she wanted a bath So I went in and turned on the water - oh was she mad at me!!!! But it was hilarious again!!! (I know, I'm mean)

Pete and Gwen are obsessed with water! Gwen must find every twisty tie or rubberband IN THE HOUSE, no matter where they are she can find them and puts them in the water bowls or in the toilet

All three of mine are very interested in the toilet, but Blaze is my only lap-sitter. Occasionally, he likes to jump on my lap while I'm on the toilet and snuggles my ear.

Curly Q - finds every twisty tie or rubberband and puts them in the toilet??!!! ROFL - that just cracked me up!!!! Bet it doesn't make you guys too happy though.

Yes, one of our cats (the pesky one) loves the toilet and will put her two front paws down into the toilet on the sides before the water starts and drink out of it. I always have fresh water but she has a "thing" about finding her own water. She will scavage water anywhere she can...must be some sort of hunting instinct or something. She will also stick a paw in and lick the water off her paw.

Believe it or not, there is a reason for this behavior. Cats are facinated by spinning objects (as anyone who owned a turntable in the days before CDs can tell you). With toilets, its the flush that facinates them. All that water and, um, other stuff spinning round and round just captivates their little kitty minds. They typically show up as soon as you enter the bathroom in anticipation of the upcoming flush. Really, I'm not making this stuff up. For your kitty, every flush is a fiesta of fun!

I have a friend who toilet trained his cat (you can buy kits to do this as Petsmart). Problem was, once the cat learned how to flush, it decided it now had its own personal Play Station equivilant. It would flush, then watch, then flush, then watch... for hours on end.

Yes our cat is completely fascinated by the toilet. She cries outside the door and then jumps up on the seat as soon as you are done.
I have caught her drinking out of it 3 times. (we've only had her 3 weeks)

when your bowl is clean as a whistle.....put your fingers in that water.....what you will find is the coldest water and freshest water in the house...real cold water ...

Our cats do every single thing that's been mentioned here (with the exception of being toilet trained)!!

My mom's cat actually likes to get IN the shower with her.

My Black Cat Gizmo, drinks OUT of the toilet. My Red cat, who has since passed on, used to LOVE it when I flushed the toilet, his head would go 'round and 'round in a circle as the toilet FLUSHED! (I miss that cat..)

She thinks she's a DOG! LOL

None of mine ever went for the toliet, but they all like the tub! They love to run in it (when there's no water in it) and "attack" the shower curtain!

My cat will come running when he hears the toilet flush. He will watch it til it finishes spinning and then he will drink out of it. He won't drink the fresh water we leave him in his bowl, but will only drink out of the toilet. If someone puts the seat down, he will sit next to the toilet and cry.

Our kitties will never drink the fresh water we leave them, either. Only out of the toilet will they drink.

Black Kitty who died 10/27/02 would sit on my lap while I pottied.
