This past September my Ocicat, Sheeba, who was 18½ years old and who I had since she was a kitten died related to stomach cancer.
Today my Siamese, Tally, had to be put to sleep due to total kidney failure. She was about 14 and about 2½ years ago developed a cyst in one of her kidneys. At the vet today I was told that she was severely anemic, total kidney failure, and even though I had seen her drinking a lot, extremely dehydrated. The doctor said that yes, medications and infusion of fluids subcutaneously could keep her alive for a few more months but her quality of life would be very low.
I have had one or more cats in the family for more than 20 years. I have already been looking at Siamese Rescue and have seen a few pairs of cats which have bonded and may see about adopting one of those sets so when I am out they will still have company.
