Catherine & Jesse - PJ & TR: TR Day 2 - hair & make up trial, updated 11/5

Up until this point we hadn't really had any issues about who was invited and who wasn't. Yesterday DF got an email from one his aunts saying that she wanted to confirm that we were going to accomodate her and her family at our wedding. It was really weird because we are not close with her at all. :confused3 Out of the 7 years that I have been with DF, I have maybe seen her a handful of times. I don't even think she knows what my name is.

DF was annoyed that she emailed him about that because it put him in a really awkward and uncomfortable position, which I totally don't blame him for. Anyway, in the end he ended up emailing her back saying that we are having a really small wedding down in Florida but we will be having another reception when we come home.

I just don't like how people assume that you are automatically invited to someones wedding. I mean especially when you haven't received any information in the mail regarding the wedding. No save the date, newsletter -nothing. Anyway, sorry about the mini rant :cool2:

completely understand!! This must be a super common thing for us DFTW Brides to put up with. I'm sorry family is giving you stress. I think the way your DF handled it is perfect. And just know you're not the only one going through it..I think we have ALL had this email/phone call. Its like "Oh..I was checking my mail and I DONT have a Save the Date" My thinking is..."Well..duh..cause you won't be receiving an invitation either:idea: " But of course I would NEVER say that aloud:eek: lol.

WOW - that takes a lot of chutzpah! I can't believe someone would invite themselves - and their family - like that.... Your DF did exactly the right thing, though. You kind of have to put on the :cool2: and hold your ground on these things....

I didn't receive a save the date for my cousin's wedding (didn't even know he was engaged), but I received an invite to the shower. I have since received the invite to the wedding too, without saying whether or not I can bring my BF (of 6 years). The story goes that the "ran out" of the save the dates. Well, heck, send me an email, I don't need anything fancy!

Good luck with the aunt. I had one aunt asking me when I am getting married so she can reserve a room. Little does she know it I have an escape wedding, she's not invited.

We've had the same problem! People sometimes assume that because the wedding is at Disney, it's going to be a free-for-all.... So far, I've just given a vague answer about how expensive travel/staying at Disney is, and we'd be happy if they want to celebrate with us closer to home. Maybe you can invite your aunt to a shower?

Well then there is the other side of that problem. My father and siblings barely knew their mom's family(grandfather was a meanie). My parents would get invitations to weddings that they weren't sure who the couple was. My mom would call up one of her SIL's and have to ask. One was my dad's 1st cousin's great grand daughter's wedding!

As for shipping boxes, I use USPS priority mail(usually takes 2 days to get to Orlando from Ohio). I would take the box in about a week-5 days before hand.

I use the full name of the resort, street address, have my name, reservation number and check in day on the label. Also put hold at front desk. When I check in I ask for my box and the CM goes in the back room and comes out with it.

It's very important because I have my stash of Starbuck's in there and if you haven't figured out it's tough to get a good cup of coffee at WDW.

:cool2: for those that invite themselves! the people I work with - not even family- act like they are renting a bus and coming down! How many times do I have to say invitation only- and you have to be on MY disney bus to get in to the wedding!!!

Sorry, I feel your pain!

Catherine,
I feel your pain! I am dealing with the same exact thing! I know that alot of people on here are dealing with "disney Haters", but I am dealing with the exact oppoisite, the people that watched the DFTW special on food network, and are begging for an invitation. I think the worst is the family members that were always MIA and now all of a sudden, they care! Good for you for standing your ground!

We only had to pack 35 of those babies, but we just nested them together (alphabetically :rotfl: ) in a box with all our reception and ceremony items and sent them to ourselves at the hotel. It was soooooo easy. I think the box cost less than $20 to FedEx from California....

Oh, and I shipped my dress to Carolyn Allen for $19. I am a huge fan of shipping!HTH! :thumbsup2

Thanks Carrie - I'm starting to shipping is the way to go..

I agree... The :cool2: are going to come in handy.

Weird what happened with the save the dates. It sounds like a lame excuse though. Are you planning on attending the wedding?

I know what you mean. Its like you never talk to us and yet suddenly you're emailing us not asking us if you can come, but telling us you're coming. DF's other family members think she has some ulterior motive, but whatever - she's not invited. DF did tell her that we are having an at home reception when we get back which she is invited to.

 I have heard stories about the coffee. Thanks for the shipping tips, that will definitely help out :thumbsup2.

Thanks Kendra! Good luck with your family too. I think at some point in every brides wedding planning - they are going to come across these types of problems. Its especially more difficult when the wedding is so far away and the guest list just has to be more limited.

i volunteer to carry around a guest list and if youre not on there I want to be the one hailing them a cab back to the airport. Youre seat is right this way....

the same thing happened with me...one of my friends asked if he could bring 2 guests, when i hadn't even sent out invitations yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think your df did the right thing...you know what they say about assuming...

My family did this for the wedding we were planning at home, and they liked to tell us what to do during our wedding day! That is why we cancelled and are now have our dream disney wedding :)

I'm allowing my friends to bring 1 guest only. The fact they asked you before you even sent out the invites is rude :headache:

Good for you Jane :goodvibes You will have a beautiful wedding!

Celeste just called me a little while ago to tell me that she will be away on maternity leave at the time of my wedding. She said that it would be better to switch to a new planner now because we are still kind of far out and haven't gotten into all the specific details of the wedding yet. So instead of switching halfway through - getting a new one now would make more sense.
And I totally agree with her on that. The only thing is I'm freaking out a little now. I'm not a person who deals with change very well  Celeste said my new planner would be Meri. I haven't heard too much about her, but has anyone had her? I'm kind of sad because I really liked Celeste and was looking forward to meeting her.

PinTradingWedding had Meri and loved her - you're in good hands!!:goodvibes

I have Meri, so far so good. She seems really nice but th only contact I have had is through emails as yet. Having my planning session next week so I can let you know more now. I wouldn't worry about changing it will work out alright in the end. :thumbsup2

Awww I'm so happy for Celeste!!! She and her husband are so darn cute!

Dont worry Catherine, I'm sure any planner you get will be fantastic!

I have heard good things about Meri!! You will be fine!

I would love to hear how your PS goes! That would be a lot help! Thank you!

After I tried on my dresses, we all went over to David's Bridal to look at some BM dresses. This is the bridesmaid dress we might be going with. I love the color of this dress and will most likely be the color we will choose.

Lurking :) . Great PJ! I love everything you've done so far. Did you end up going with this dress for the BM? Wery pretty and I love the color. I had the same dress in cinnamon for my sister's fall wedding and I loved it.

Hi! Thanks for coming out of lurking! :thumbsup2 We still haven't decided 100% if we are going to go with that dress yet. I do like it though. The girls still want to shop around some more to see if they see anything else they like better.
