Category 9, Deck 2, Any Suggestions?

I thought there were a couple of great pictures in this thread of the portholes so thought I would bump up for those considering category 9 (like myself)

Thanks for bumping!! I'm so glad I got to see this thread! We are booked in 2058 next Sept, and I was really wondering what the view was going to be like, how close we would be to the water, etc. I'm SO excited about the view through the porthole!!! Hopefully with a pair of binoculars, We'll be able to spot some sea life!!! Thanks again!

We've stayed 3 times in Cat 9 2nd floor, and love it. We are always starboard, midship, and it's great. We can use the stairs with ease coming back from shows or dinner, rather than waiting for an elevator.

The porthole is huge! No problems there. Here is a photo of my DW in the room

Here's a picture of the porthole in 2520. For scaling purposes, note that the baby is about 33 inches tall.

As you can see, she's quite fond of looking out the porthole while eating room service muffins.

Are there rooms on Deck 2 that are noisy?

I had more than one question about the noise on Deck 2 while I maintained a "Let me answer your questions, 'live' from the Magic" thread on the DIS Boards during our 2001 Magic cruise, so I went down to Deck 2 and did my own evaluation.

First of all, let me state that, for the majority of the rooms, Deck 2 is very quiet and you should have no problem staying there. But there are some zones where staterooms are near loud mechanical equipment (electrical lockers, transformer rooms, a/c equipment rooms, ship's propellers, cargo hatches, etc.).

So with the disclaimer that "your mileage may vary" and that you may be willing to put up with the "dull roar" in exchange for a good fare, these are the rooms that are in noisy zones:

Port Starboard
2000 - 2004

2032

2036 - 2047

2078 - 2085

2094 - 2096

2114 - 2129

2139 - 2153
2500 - 2520

2534 - 2547

2586 - 2600

2626

2630 - 2653

Also, on Deck 1, you might want to avoid...

1062 - 1064

The noise in these zones is not so loud that it would ruin your vacation, but if you are sensitive to noise, you would probably want to consider another room or be sure to bring earplugs to wear when you go to bed.

2528 is a great room as well. Right at the elevators and stairs...very convenient. We enjoyed the location so much that we've booked 2526 next year.

We are planning on doing a cruise in 5/06. I have been checking prices and for budget ways I know that getting a inside room is the cheapest, I am hoping to get on deck 2 because it seems pretty convient to a lot of things. My question is does anyone know what the price difference would be from an inside room to a porthole room, (I think I would enjoy that much better) Then again since my children would be older and not expecting to spend a lot of time in room should I just stay with an inside or not. My sis-in-law plans on booking also but she is going to get a verendah, (I can't afford that), we can always hang out their if we want? I am so confused on what to do, It is going to be a tight squeeze for me to save money for the trip as it is so should I not spend the extra money on a prothole? HELP me decide!!!!

Thanks! I had seen that site. I'm a little concerned, being a light sleeper myself, but we need adjoining rooms as we are traveling with my parents and there wasn't anything else available in that category, so I think we're stuck. I'm just curious as to what the noise is from. I was hoping Bonnie Voyager might have an idea, since they were across the hall.

LostGirls, We had no problem at all with noise in connecting cabins 2622 and 2624. I think 2626 is right above a loading area and apparently that cabin hears noise whenever the ship is docked and they are loading supplies or something through that door. I suppose that maybe that noise is also audible across the hall, but we didn't hear a peep in our cabins (even in 2624 which shares a wall with 2626-the noisy list cabin)! I think that even if you have noise, it will be only occasional and it will be muffled. I would not worry about it at all!
