What type of verandah do Category 6 rooms have? Are they the ones that are metal or plexi-glass? We have a GTY category 6, but no room number yet. Thanks for your help.

It depends on which one you get. Go to castawayclub.com they have some info. on this topic. Enjoy the verandah!

Veranda Overview Summary

Cat 7 are the Navigator Verandas where you only have a porthole to look through. The are all located towards the back of the boat.

Cat 6 are the Verandas on Deck 6. The ones at midship (forward of the Navigator Verandas) are plexiglass. The ones aft of the Navigator Verandas have the solid rail.

Cat 5 is the same as Cat 6 except they are on Deck 7.

Now there are some specific exceptions (for example, there are some Cat 6 on Deck 6, and the Cat 5 and 6 closest to Cat 7 are now sold as Cat 7 (because the view is PARTIALLY obstructed.

Thanks for the info. We would love if the verandah was plexi-glass, but are so happy to have a verandah, it doesn't really matter. We have stayed previously in an inside cabin on deck 2, and two oceanview cabins on deck 1 and two, so this is a step up no matter which verandah. Thanks again, everyone is so helpful.

delo4,

Do you know what your room assignment is going to be? If so, you can determine which type of verandah you will have.

If all you know is that you are Cat 6 and still waiting on a cabin assignment, then I can tell you that the odds are you will have a plexi-glass verandah.

Dave_from_Marietta- I love your site. It has some really GREAT pictures and so much info. We are planning our first cruise in May 2004 and have no idea what we are in for so it was really nice that you had the Navagator pages there as well as the pictures of the verandah's and port holes. I added your site to my fav.
Thanks!!!

We have a verandah cabin booked for our cruise next summer, and boy those verandahs aren't very big, are they?!?! LOL

I know it'll be nice to be able to walk outside though, and we got it mainly because we'll have our sons on this cruise with us, and we wanted to make it special. :) It'll be nice to be able to walk out and see the ocean and ports when we wake up in the morning and before going to bed, and anytime else we feel like being out there.

I see that there are 2 chairs and a small table on each verandah.... Is there enough space for the 4 of us to all stand outside at the same time, or is it tiny and just 2 people at a time can fit?

Dave_From_Marietta - I found your listing of stateroom and verandah descriptions. Thanks so much. i printed it and it will be very helpful when we receive our room number. Thanks again.

SeaSpray,

A standard verandah is the wide of you cabin and about 4 feet deep.

I noticed that the DCL web site lists the Cat 8-10 Deluxe Stateroom as being 214 sq.ft. while Cat5-7 Verandah Stateroom is 268 sq.ft.

This seems to indicate that the verandah is 54 sq.ft.

Thanks :) I took another look of the picture of Barb on the plexi-glass verandah (the pic of her standing on the verandah that someone from below took) and from that pic, it doesn't look as small as I imagined it to be. Looks like all 4 of us can be on it together and enjoy the scenery :)

Hi,
we had the cat. 6 verandah this summer. We could all (4) stand at the railing to watch us pull into or leave a dock. there isn't much room for 4 people to sit, person #3 has the option to sit on the table, but we only let the kids sit there. i honestly cant remember if it was we didnt think it would hold weight or if we were just being selfish and not getting up out of the seat:rolleyes:
