Need help with a Category 3 decision.

I want to surprise my family with a Category 3 room. I can get room 8048, right under the Goofy pool for one cruise. This cruise is the one my family thinks we are going on and is part of a larger group that I'm somewhat associated with. But, I'm concerned about noise and such.

Or I can get 8078 (I think that's the one) more aft, 2 weeks later, which seems like it would be more quiet. But, then I'd have to explain to the family why we we switching and would be breaking from the group.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Our experience...........

We were in 8048 on the Wonder and will never stay anywhere near that location again. There was noise early in the morning (4:30 - 5:00am) from the crew moving tables and chairs, rolling carts back and forth, etc. There was absolutely no way to block the noise from the deck parties, and the night time one doesn't end until around 11:00pm. Closing the door didn't help much....... the noise was coming through the ceiling. You would probably get some noise in 8078, but I'm sure it has to be quieter than 8048.

We were in 8532 right under the stage.

The only noise I heard was from the party on the night we left Nassau.

Other than that sliding chairs on the top deck was there, but I did not mind at all.

If you close the verandah door, you cannot hear much at all.

Id stick with your first date.

We have this room for the Sept. 19 cruise. Very curious about your decision...I'm sure the room (hopefully) is great, but sort of nervous about noise. I'm going with sisters and mom, no kids, so I'm not really thinking about the other stuff. I'm just looking forward to a break from the routine. Cruising is more fun with a group and you might not even notice the cabin noise

We were in 8532 on the Wonder in January. It was the noisiest cabin I've ever had on a cruise. I don't think it was under the stage, more like under the open deck and the ping pong table. The noice we heard was like people (most likely kids) running on the deck above our heads. Thud, thud, thud. Every day, not all the time, but from time to time.

The room was beautiful and the service good, but I'd never take that room (or possibly any room on that deck) again because of the thuds.

Also, one night when we had kind of rough seas, the beautiful inlaid wood paneling squeaked something terrible.

OK...now I'm stressing! We are booked for 8542 and I really hope we don't ensounter alot of early morning noise. We get up plenty early normally and I don't want to get up any early than I have to (than DS demands!) when we are on vacation. I am a pretty light sleeper since the kiddo came along and now that I read these posts I'm a little nervous.:(

The room (8048) was very nice. Nicely done wood paneling, bookshelves, 2 complete bathrooms, 2 TVs, stereo system, good sized living room area, dining table for 4, etc. The concierge service was nice and the "treats" they brought us were great.

Our only complaint was the noise. Because of what we experienced in 8048, on our upcoming cruise we have a cat 4 as close to the front of the ship as we could get, directly under the hair salon. Hopefully that location will be a lot quieter. I'm not even sure I would stay in the Walt or Roy suites because they are too close to the noise. I have to believe that any cabin that is under an open part of the deck could be noisey, some worse than others.

If DCL does build another ship, I really hope they do something about the noise from the top deck. No one, no matter what category cabin they have, should have to deal with noise on vacation.

Any room on Deck 8 will be subject to the people above, crew moving chairs, etc. noise. If you want a suite, I'm sure some are better than others, but that is something you'll have to deal with. It will depend on you and your family. We are all pretty sound sleepers and it has never bothered us. We have been in several locations on Deck 8, including right under Topsiders, and it has never bothered us. The morning noise was there but by the time we heard it, we were waking up and I think we were looking to get up anyway. Also, we are not the type to go to bed too early so that's never been an issue, either. My feeling...I'll sleep in the engine room if I can just be on the Magic (or Wonder)!

Saturday night I will be in 8086, noise or no noise, it doesn't matter. I am just happy it won't be the whining dog, fighting cats or chirping bird.

Ain't that the truth!

We were in 8078 on the Jan 29th Wonder and loved it. We never heard any noise but talking to the concierge staff one day they told us to check the four cabins (8032,8532,8034 & 8534) I believe as we were leaving the ship to see the different layout. And they were right - there is a HUGE size differnce in the rooms. We rebooked for 8032 and I think I can stand a little noise for the difference in the size.
Just FYI!!!

Dreamer- I can't wait to hear how things go on your trip. We are in 8086 for this June (Western). I will look forward to hearing about the room and the service. Have a blast!:sunny:

We are booked for 8034 on our 4 night Wonder cruise in June. Princesslondon, was this cabin larger than some of the other Cat. 3s? We picked it because it seemed to have a longer balcony than some of the others--is this true? We don't really care about noise either and have never had a problem on other cruise ships or hotels if we liked the room overall.

we had the room directly forward of the Walt Disney suite and it was nice and quiet - we never heard anything from above.

justhat-
Yes those four cabins are definately bigger. Most of the internet pictures I've seen were of one of these cabins. So when I walked into 8078 I was a little surprised, don't get me wrong it was a beautiful and wonderful cabin, the picture just makes it look bigger than it is and after looking at the other cabin it's because they show one of these four.
Hope that makes sense and we are so looking foward to Jan 05!!!

:wave2: We stayed in 8038 on the Wonders New Years Eve Cruise. I will never stay under the pool area again! The noise from a party at the pool kept us up until 1am. Then the clean up noise started at 2:30 am (throwing chairs, sliding tables, etc.) and continued ALL night. On the other nights, the noise started at 3am and continued until morning. We had to call guest services every night to get them to stop the noise. We left the ship exhausted ( and the kids were cranky!).

Our previous cruise 2 summers ago, we stayed in 8006 which is under the spa. It was great, absolutely no noise! I will never stay on Deck 8 again, unless I can be under the spa.

justthat - one reason 8032, 8034, 8532, & 8534 are slightly larger than the other Cat 3's is because the murphy bed is in the living room instead of the bedroom. This makes for a little bit larger layout in the living room area.

We are on the Magic 11/6/04 in cabin 8032 and can not wait. I was booked into a different cabin and called DCL 2 different times to change cabin ##'s and finally landed on 8032.
