I give all vegitarians and vegans in the world credit for their lifestyle. I've never even tried, but I can just imagine how hard it is to change.

I told my parents last year that I wanted to be a vegitarian, and they freaked.
So did mine. :p

...I told my parents last year that I wanted to be a vegitarian, and they freaked.

I know the feeling Jaimie, my entire family are all heavy red-meat eaters. When I told my parents... let's just say that they weren't supportive of my decision... at all; but they can't force you to eat meat, right? They even took me to the doctor like a crazy person and tried to get her to convince me that going veg is unhealthy. Much to the disappointment of my parents, the doctor just wrote down in my file that I was altering my diet, and she gave me a list of vegetarian sites, books, and magazines.

I did my research before making the switch, and I know what to eat in order to get my complete proteins etc. I have to move out of the house before becoming a vegan though... that my parents will not allow. I still have some more research and thought to put into it though, so I guess its good that I have some time to think it through first.

...My mom was a vegetarian, but then quit because she didin't feel well on that kind of diet.

Most likely she wasn't eating properly. If she had a condition where her body could not survive without animal fats she should have consulted her doctor first, but otherwise if you eat certain foods that make complete proteins, or eat foods other than salads, you should be fine. Vegetarian does not mean salads.

Never been one.
My family never was.
I dont want to be one. :goodvibes

I was a vegetarian for a little over a year. I didn't do it because of my love for the little animals, I did it because of a bad experience at a restaurant involving meat, and I just didn't want the stuff near me for a while. I still don't eat tons of meat, it's just not my favorite food.

My brother is a vegetarian, but I believe he still eats fish and dairy.

I don't really want to be a vegitarian. A lot of people do it because of harming the poor animals. But you not eating meat's not going to stop people from killing and slaugtering animals for food...

I od however only eat chicken and fish. First of all it's healthier for me and I just don't like beef...

Pork is a whole other thing altogether...very complicated...:goodvibes

but it makes me feel better to know IM not contributing to it.
plus it is really healthy (when done properly)

yeah. mine did too at first.
but thats because most parents are under the impression your going to eat salads the rest of your life. which is untrue. (i hate salads)

i highly suggest Boca. its soooo good. most the time you cant even tell its not real meat.

I am not vegetarian. While I would like to be one, I find it hard to stop eating meat and I need it in my diet as I'm a picky eater and alternatives gross me out.

I actually have to disagree Miss Jessr!ca. I don't like Boca at all, any soy beef products are just plain nasty to me. I really prefer Oh Natural! but again, not their beef patties, the meatballs are excellent though.

I guess its just personal preference; if you can stomach Boca, way to go! :)

well yeah, the Boca beef patties are kinda gross. but the chicken nuggets! and chilli are both REALLY good.
i made the chicken nuggets for my brother once, and hes a SUPER picky eater. i didnt tell him they were not real chicken and he said they were really good.

I think, I'm not sure; but vegans cut out all animal products from their diet. They won't eat meat or dairy. Vegitarians just cut out meat.

As for the poll, I've wanted to be a vegitarian for about a year. My horrible eating habits wouldn't allow me to do it, though.

Same. :sad2:

Exactly. Once I gave my real meat-and-potatoes-kind-of-guy dad a ''Chick'n'' Cordon Bleu and he said it tasted better than a real one. Since then my parents have made lots of lasagna, taco, and spaghetti dinners with Ground Round (a soy ground beef) and my siblings can't even tell the difference!

Even meat eaters can once in a while make something with a veggie product, for health purposes, if for nothing else.

This was the reason my parents freaked out last year.

Mine didn't... my mom and dad support me all the way, in fact, if there's no non-meat entree (like Sal and Carvao... (total meat pretty much)) and not just salad, we don't go because they know i'd have a really hard time...
my mom loves the veggie-patties... mmmmmmmm i love the fake chicken patties those are soo good!
