Hey all,

After many conversations and back-and-forth, my family and I have decided that Disneyworld will be our next vacation destination. The trouble is that the last time we visited was 10 years ago. SO MUCH has changed, and I do not know where to start. I'm logging into the Disboards after 10 years in hopes that you all will find it in your heart to help catch me up on what I need to know! I'm just talking broad strokes; once I have a grip on that, I'll start digging into the nuances and find more information. The last time we went to Disney there were threads upon threads about Fast Passes, barely an app, no Pandora, Magic Bands (do these still exist?), etc. We need to know the must-see shows, how things work these days related to staying on property, and any other big changes that have happened since we've been there.

About us: We are a family of 5 adults aged 18-45. We are not the "go, go, go," type of family, preferring to balance some adventure mixed in with lazy, leisurely days. This means that touring the parks sun up, afternoon break, to sun down is not really for us. In fact, we are THAT group which will likely never make it to rope drop (is it still even called that?!). We are not interested in the more thrilling side of Disney, so rides like Expedition Everest are not something we need to take into account. We're

The rough plan: We're looking to do the Food & Wine festival in mid-September of 2027. We are thinking of spending 3 days in MK, 2 days in AK, and 2 days in Epcot, 1 day in HS for an 8-day non-hopper ticket. Please let me know if this should be adjusted at all, but we are pretty committed to only 1 day in HS, if at all. We're all borderline okay skipping this park (but again, based on past experiences).

TIA for any help or guidance you're willing to share. I'm perfectly comfortable with links and rolling my sleeves up and digging in if anyone has suggestions for threads I should read.

Welcome back! It's exciting that you're planning your 'return to WDW' trip!

A good place you may wish to start is with the thread, 'Planning Time for Your WDW Trip - Start Here!' We have created this thread with links to other important, informative threads that will help you. Three are also a number of helpful threads pinned to the top of this page that you may wish to review.

Along with that, others will respond to the questions you've posted and your planning adventure will continue!

Happy planning!

To answer some of your other questions:
- Fast Passes are now Lighting Lanes which are a paid option you can add (The best thread to learn about these currently is this thread. I would recommend reading the last 5-10 pages of that thread to learn current info.
- MagicBands still exist! Your old ones will work for most things with the exception of ride photos or the specialty interactive things the MB+ offer. You don't 'need' to purchase MBs for each person in your group but you can if you wish. MBs are no longer offered free to guests staying at a Disney resort.
- Sadly Magical Express is no longer offered so guests need to find their own transportation from the airport to WDW if they do not have a car. You can find discussions about this on the transportation board.

So much has changed since your last trip (including DHS) so I would recommend watching some YouTube videos in addition to reading threads here, to catch you up a little on the many changes that have taken place since your last trip. A couple of YouTube channels I would recommend are:
- AllEars.net
- Paging Mr Morrow

I'll let others chime in and provide into to help you with your planning.

I agree, so much has changed! It was a much simpler time to go 10 years ago! Fast passes were a part of you ticket. Now they are called Lightening Lanes and is an extra cost... my family chooses not to use Lightening Lane, only time we have was to get virtual queues if available or if there was a must do ride. We have gone so many times we just take our time now, maybe hop into a ride line but enjoy the atmosphere more now and food. We miss how the parks felt 10 years ago compared to now. We still enjoy it!

Ive heard to try to plan you day with 3 must do attractions, 2 shows/entertainment and 1 must do dining. that will help plan your day better. also keeping up with DIS until your trip will help especially when new things open or if anything changes.

As others have said, much has changed...

If you like a relaxed pace but want to ride as many attractions as possible, consider Lightening Lane Premier Passes. They allow you to enter the Lightening Line without reserving a time in advance. They are expensive, but do offer a stress-free experience.

If you prefer to spend less and riding/experiencing atractiions is important, get a Lightening Land Multi Pass and Single Pass for anything you'd like to ride/experience. There's lots of info out there on how to do that.

As far as FWF is concerned, not much has changed. italy still has the worst food, and it's best to hit the booths earlier in the day if possible. Avoid weekends.

It will be crowded and it will be hotter. Not because of global warming, but because you are older - lol. Take lots of breaks and stay hydrated.

There are some great new restaurants/places to eat. Be sure to research that.

Several attractions/areas are closed for refurbishment. Research that too.

You'll probably feel like its getting back on a bike. Once you're there, it will all come back!

Above all, enjoy!

Thank you so much for chiming in! I'll spend some time researching the links and recommendations you provided. I do have one clarifying question for you, if you don't mind - are MagicBands available and/or useful to folks staying off-property?

The recommendation to plan 3 must-do attractions, 2 shows/entertainment and 1 must-do dining is peak advice! Thank you! That will help me and my family keep expectations in check for what is doable in a day.

Hahaha! The note about it being hotter because I'm older is already SO accurate that I couldn't help but laugh out loud at that!

We are debating doing 1 day in each part with the Premier Passes and working that into our budget. I'll look into threads with more information about the other passes, too. Plus, we are big eaters, so I am excited to discover the new food available. Thanks for the tips!

Same, friend, same! But for us, it's been 12 years! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.
And crazy, this is a last minute trip for me and my husband. We've been DVC owners since 2002 and I've been to Hilton Head several times, Aulani once but it's been 12 years since I've been to Orlando and Walt Disney World.

So, today, I'm dusting off my username and am logging on to get up to date information on what to expect. I do have a bit of anxiety that it's not going to be the Disney I remember or even know how to navigate.

We sound like your family, we are not a go, go, go from dawn to midnight couple either. We like to take it easy and relax.

I look forward to reading your replies and learning with you.

Edit: When I posted this and saw my old sig, I saw that I actually have owned DVC since 2002. I had said 2003
