Can anyone tell me about Catalina Island? The best way to get there (I notice the ferries leave from many places) WHat we can do there? Is it handicap accessible? Can it be a day trip? I really want to know more about visitng this place.

There are boats leaving from San Pedro, Long Beach, and Newport Beach, I think. It takes 1-2 hours to get there by boat, and is an enjoyable ride. You can visit Avalon and take some various tours there, and yes you can do it in a day.

I am sorry, I do not know what their handicap accessibility is.

You can rent electric golf carts or bikes once on the island. The traffic is pretty light and the town is less than a quarter mile from where the ferries dock. Once in town it's within easy walking distance of everything. The green pier you can see once you land is where all the sea tours begin (30 minutes or longer). You can even take a mini sub ride. In the center of town(about a block straight up from the pier) is a plaza where you can go to buy tours. They have a long and short island tour. The roads are narrow, the guides are (generally) funny and there are some breathtaking views. The cookies at the airport are good. I haven't been there since the fire but, I'm sure they still have buffalo roaming around in the hills. By the way, the casino is not a casino.:thumbsup2
