I just found out last week that my oldest of 3 cats, Kitty, has hyperthyroidism. I found out after my middle cat, Little Bit, started attacking her all of a sudden. I took them both to the vet because I had no clue why the attacker suddenly turned very aggressive. I've had to keep them seperated for the past 2 weeks (very stressful), started using Feliway, and started the oldest on Felimazole for the hyperthyroidism. I'm hoping this is why Little Bit is attacking her. I can't keep them seperated forever. :guilty:

I also have a 6 month old kitten who is getting spayed Wednesday. I'm so nervous!:guilty: :sad2::sad1:

So...does anyone have experience with feline hyperthyroidism? What was the treatment? How long did it take to work? Anything else I should know about it?
Sincerely,
Cat Lady :rotfl:

We found it dang near impossible to 'pill' our cat. We ended up finging a compounding pharmacy that could make her Tapazole in cream form. We then used plastic gloves to smear it in her ear and it workd transdermally (I don't know if that's a word, but it went thru her skin!). The only problem was that she learned that when we put on the gloves, we were about to hold her still to do the smearing. From then on, she would hide whenever she saw the gloves! After a while, we just stopped giving her the meds. That was about 10 years ago and she has been fine without them. She's 14 (almost 15) and is perfectly happy/healthy.

Good luck!

Mine had it really bad, and was 15 when we found out. I could give her the pills, but she would always spit them out somewhere else(I would find them later). We had to do the transdermal cream as well. I never had a problem with my other cats attacking her though. She died two years after she was diagnosed.

How old is the cat? If mine had been younger, I would have done the radiation treatment to cure her.

Kitty is 13 years old. She just started the pills 4 days ago. I put the pill in a small bit of cream cheese and let her eat it off a spoon and she doesn't even notice that she's ate the pill! Now when I get out the cream cheese, she comes running, meowing like crazy!

My cat was about 16 when he was diagnosed. we too did the transdermal cream because he kept spitting out the pills. He was on it for 3 years and just recently passed away. He would run when he saw me place the gloves on...and would hide under our kitchen table right in the center!!!
