My cat is driving me nuts. He has been using his litterbox to pee, but frequently pooping outside the box. I had this problem before and I moved the box to a different location, which worked.

Now it isn't. Any advice?

I have been keeping the box VERY clean - checking to see if it needs a scooping everytime I pass it. So that's not the problem.

How old is the cat? Have you had any changes to the house recently? Has he been to the vet recently for a checkup?

Try getting a second box. Some cats really don't like using the same box for both.

Is it possible that he is getting in the box but pooping off the side and just doesn't realize that the poop is not landing in the box?

Have u changed the brand or type of litter lately?? I started using the Feline Pine and one of my kitties HATED it. She would pee in it, but would poop just outside of it. Had to go back to their normal litter.

I've had the same problem with my kitty for months!!! He poops right outside the box and isn't because he's missing the box. It drives me crazy too!!! Unfortunately I haven't found a solution yet. Maybe I'll try the two litter boxes and see if that works.

OK, let me run down the list -

Yes, he had his last checkup with the vet in July.

No, haven't changed the litter. Same old Fresh Step Scoop I've used since his kittenhood.

Nope. He's not "missing" the box, because he is pooping far enough away from the box - sometimes across the room even.

I think I'll give the second box a whirl. I'm going a little batty.

Thanks for the tip Rajah - I'll keep ya posted.:D

I'm sorry to hear about your kitty troubles. One good thing at least is that the kitty is not peeing outside the box instead. We've been having that problem with one of our kitties, and it is even more difficult to find and to clean. He's been peeing around the house and marking his territory. I'll trade you problems ;).

Clean the areas where he poops well. Get a disenfectant, a lot of air freshener, and possibly that cat repellent spray. Whenever a cat declares an area his "for the business", it stays that way forever until you can get rid of the odor/evidence.
