After Fraggle's accident last weekend he is now home, but he won't eat. I have been giving him custard as this is the only thing he is remotley interested in, but he won't eat it out of his bowl and I have to sit there for an hour with it on my hands feeding it to him.

The vet said that sometimes they go anorexic after an accident like that, I'm not sure what to next. He is going to the vets this morning, MIL and FIL are taking him as DH and I are both working.

Any ideas?

Hmm - it's a tough one, cos when a cat doesn't want to eat, there's nothing you can do, short of literally shovelling the food down their throat.

One of ours was very poorly sick with kidney failure when he was a kitty (he's not just had his 15th birthday::yes:: ) and he would not eat for about 9 days, but boy did he make up for it.

The vet told us not to worry at the time because he was in recovery, but you can't help but worry, can you.

I suspect Fraggle will eat again when he's ready, he's had a nasty shock at the end of the day. I'm sure as long as you keep him hydrated with a little fluid he'll soon pick up.

Hope he's ok after his trip to the vets.

I don't have any advice Gems, but just wanted to say that I hope Fraggle is back to normal soon (that finger / custard thing can't be much fun! :) )

Hugs to Fraggle!

Mrs Dazzle is right - cats are very sensitive to anything that is amiss and this can include being outwith their surroundings or any trauma. It is just a matter of your cat finding it's "comfort zone" again and not feeling threatened....you will find that the appetite will come back quickly and unexpectedly but do not fret if your cat hasn't eaten for a few days....as long as he/she is left fresh drinking water (not milk!!) then it will all work out OK.

Hope this puts your mind at rest and say Hi to Fraggle for me :earsboy:

Hi

What may also not be helping is this weather. My 3 cats usually demolish their dinners within minutes and are looking for more. During the past week they seem to be 'picking' at their food - leaving half empty dishes - sometimes coming back to it, but I usually have to throw some away which is very unusual.

I can only put it down to the heat as all three are the same. I must admit I know how they feel and I don't have a fur coat on !!!

The main thing is that there is plenty of fluids available. Even if you offer small titbits every so often rather than a full meal. I'm sure within the next few days everything will be back to normal.

the vet has given him some special food to have it looks a lot like the cat version of Toast Topper! You mix it with a little warm water and apparently this increases the smell of it. (Vet says he is not eating because he can't smell his food due to his cold!)

He has eaten a tin of this since yesterday which is a start although a tin is only the size of a tin of tuna. He is going back to the vets with MIL and FIL today for another injection and to get some more food. Thanks for your help.:teeth:

Poor Fraggle :( But at least he's eating something now which is a step in the right direction :)

How's he doing today?

i went into his room this morning to fine blood all over the walls, the poor mite had got a nose bleed and sneezed everywhere!

The vet has given him some new tablets to take but they don't taste nice so we put them into some chicken liver and he ate everything except for the bit that had the tablet in it. The vet says that we must force them down him somehow:eek: otherwise it will be a daily trip (5 days) to the vets for injections.

He is eating a lot better now, I am so relieved, he is sleeping a lot which should be doing him good.

The poor thing has got 3 bald patched too where they have shaved him for blood tests and drips!
