We got our cat groomed yesterday. She got the lion cut. She looks a little funny since she is normally a long haired cat but we get it done once a year or so to keep the hairballs under control. Anway, Oliver, our other cat, hates her now! He growls, hisses, follows her around keeping an eye on her. Poor Abigail, she has this funny looking hair cut and now her BFF won't even talk to her. :upsidedow

Pardon the crappy cell phone quality pics.

Awww. Cats are so funny. I'm sure he just doesn't like that she smells different :goodvibes:.

That's so cute!
Now I'm going to be productive and go watch videos of cats with lion cuts. :thumbsup2

We've got one longhair cat that we do this to as well. He does not like getting brushed or combed to prevent knots. So once a year, he gets shaved to get rid of the knots we are unable to get out throughout the year. He actually seems to like it. Maybe its just cooler for him in the summer? :confused3 The other cats don't seem to care, IIRC.

We did that one time to our kitty. We didn't know at the time he had cancer and the hair never grew back in quite right. He had all the hairy and bald patches all over him. Poor baby.

How hard is this to do? My daughter has two cats with very long hair. This could be good for them (assuming they don't get very agitated in the process ;)).

Easy-peasy! Drop her off at groomer, pick her up a few hours later. ;)

My other cat, Oliver, cannot be groomed or go to the vet. He is the most laid back cat...until he goes to either of those places. He had to be sedated and intubated for his last exam. So he doesn't go anymore. Abigail continues to go though. If she has any oddities then we will bite the bullet and take him in again but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Unless you are really brave, it is best to let a professional do it. My one long haired cat had to be shaved like that once and we had to take him to the vets office to have it done, because he had to be sedated.

I have no problem shaving my dog, but I would never go near one of the cats with a pair of clippers, the noise alone will scare them off.

Our cats have all been self-grooming.

I had a cat that would get the lion cut twice a year. He would be embarrassed the first day and by day 2 he was much happier and full of energy, for a cat. His fur was so thick and with the summers in the south being as hot as they are, he was miserable if he wasn't shaved. OP your cat looks like it might have some Maine Coon? Mine was a mix and part Main Coon, he was so soft after being shaved like a lamb. I miss that dude.
